UK Charts 23/09/17 - Destiny 2 Makes It Three Weeks At The Top

Holding off Project Cars 2 for the lead.

Destiny 2 has managed to hold onto the top spot in the UK retail charts, despite the release of the first in a trio of major sim racing games, Project Cars 2. In fact, if you were to go off the physical charts alone, Project Cars 2 will have to be seen as a major flop, with its first weekend of sales a huge 74% lower than those of the original game, which sped into first place back in May 2015 and was a major success for Slightly Mad Studios.

However, as an acerbic GamesIndustry.biz points out, it’s not alone – Destiny 2 itself was down 50% compared to its predecessor, if we stick to this metric – and we’re simply not getting the whole picture with the increasing shift toward digital sales that are hidden from public view week in, week out. Digital sales are rapidly increasing, but we don’t know quite to what extent and not on a game-by-game basis.

Even so, dropping 74% doesn’t look too great for Project Cars 2, which is launching in a much busier time of year and facing stiffer competition. Even with digital sales, it seems unlikely that it’s reaching the heights of the first game.

It must mean everyone is saving their cash for Peach Beach Splash! It’s inevitable it will take the top spot next week ;)

PCars 2 is meh to be honest. But then first week sales should be more dependent on marketing/reviews I guess, rather than word of mouth. To be fair people seem to enjoying it more or less.

I’ll be selling it in two weeks for GTS anyhow, the schedule is busy. Wasn’t PCars released in May last time, that was a much better release window really.

Destiny 2 has been out for 3 whole weeks, and I’ve already got nothing to do on it. Very disappointing considering the hours of gameplay I got from the first game. Easy Platinum I suppose.

Datto was spot on, it’s been over simplified and they’ve ground out the RPG elements almost entirely.

Being overlevelled for the Raid on its launch day was a joke

Curious how many hours you have put into the game so far. I’ve played it a fair bit (2-3 hours most days since launch) and have only just got one of my characters at a reasonable level for the Raid.

“Very disappointing considering the hours of gameplay I got from the first game”. Do you mean over the same 3 week period? The reason I ask is because D2 is far more feature rich than D1 was at launch, it was the expansions which turned it into a proper time-sink.

As I say, just curious as, on the surface of it, it sounds like you’ve burned through the game in no time and are now complaining there is nothing to do :)
