Something For The Weekend – 07/10/17

In the land of the rising sun.

This weekend F1 is in the land of the rising sun, which means early starts (booo!) and unpredictable weather (hurrah!). After last weekend’s disappointment for Ferrari and this morning’s qualifying, it’s looking increasingly likely that the Drivers Championship will be wrapped up well before the finale in Abu Dhabi, but fingers crossed we get a good show this weekend!

In the News This Week

Unfortunately, you’re too late to enter now as the competition closed on Friday night, but this week we gave you the chance to win Battle Chasers: Nightwar on PS4. We’ll update this post, the competition post and tweet the winners as soon as we’ve done the draw.

In other news, we have some custom fan made Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy cases as prizes for this week’s Video Game Pub Quiz.

Games in Review

Dom heaped the praise on Forza 7, which he said “continues the series’ march towards motoring perfection, and graphically there is simply nothing close to touching it”. Here’s the full overview below:

This Week’s Features

After some time off for the series, Assassin’s Creed is back with Origins, and this week Tef has been taking an extensive look at the game. In his preview, he called it ‘the most exciting Assassin’s Creed game in years’, and also spoke to Jean Guesdon, Creative Director, who is responsible for the new direction towards more of an action RPG game. As much as he’s looking forward to the game, there are a few things he found a bit odd, but I’ll leave you with this 10 minute video of him petting cats:

If you’re interested in the upcoming Star Wars Battlefront, Tef shared his impressions of the beta here, and has also gathered some footage from the Strike And Arcade Modes. With multiplayer still being very much the focus of the game, he spoke with Multiplayer Producer, Craig McLeod, about the evolution of this sequel.

From the other previews, Kris had a look at Super Meat Boy Forever which developer Forever have “absolutely nailed”, and Tef also found the time to look at Rogue Trooper Redux, a remake of Rebellion’s 11-years-old third person cover shooter.

Finishing up, Jim asked whether we should be worried about all the microtransactions in Shadow of War (spoiler alert: not really), and What We Played featured Forza, Destiny 2, and Shadow of War.

Your Achievements

Quite a few of you, such as tactical20, have been enjoying your new SNES Mini’s offerings, while ron_mcphatty has also been playing some older games as he clears out his backlog with Dawn of War, Split/Second and Kerbal Space Programme.

From the trophy hunters, parryman collected Dark Souls 3 Platinum after a mere 158 hours 27 minutes, while Andrewww grabbed a decidedly easier platinum from Telltale’s Borderlands game.

MrYd has been enjoying a few more VR games, recommending Here They Lie, Darknet, and Eve: Valkyrie. Also spending some time with VR was TSBonyman, who completed Driveclub VR.

Lastly, JR completed Skylar & Plux: Adventure on Clover Island, while Steelhead is on the brink of subscribing to Final Fantasy XIV as they’re currently enjoying the free trial so much.

The Week Ahead

With last week’s release dates looking like terrible review scores, this week they’re looking super good! How many will live up to it do you think?

  • Middle-earth: Shadow of War – PS4, XBO, PC – 10/10
  • Age of Empires Definitive Edition – PC – 10/10
  • The Evil Within 2 – PS4, XBO, PC – 13/10
  • Cyberdimension Neptunia: 4 Goddesses Online – PS4 – 13/10

Enjoy your weekend, and I’ll be back again soon!

Yeh me too. Well done gernboes.

Not started playing it yet but it is downloaded ready and waiting. Battlefront beta and Martyr Logarius are taking up my team. Seriously, that guy is a royal pain in the arse (Bloodborne for the uninitiated).

Never knew Age of Empires Definitive Edition was releasing so so soon, is it just Windows store or is it on Steam?
