Almost all of the news and much of the outrage has focussed on Star Wars Battlefront II, but Need for Speed Payback is another game that’s been lumbered by the loot boxes and microtransaction boosted progression system that EA tried to adopt. In what is likely a related move to EA’s suspension of microtransactions in Battlefront II, the team at Ghost Games have boosted the amount of REP and Bank you earn in a number of ways.
The update is already live, having seemingly been pushed out with a server side fix, and it includes:
- Increased the amount of REP awarded by taking part in events.
- Increased the amount of Bank awarded by taking part in events.
- Bait crates now reward increased REP.
- Bait crates now reward increased Bank.
- Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased REP.
- Competing against a Roaming Racer will reward you with increased Bank.
- Air Suspension will now appear more frequently within Shipments.
- Slightly increased REP and Bank for finishing an event outside of first place.
They also wrote on Reddit explaining that this is just the first step in an improved, faster rate of progression, hopefully dismissing some of Dom’s complaints in our review.

Today’s changes are just phase one and we have further tweaks coming. Coming shortly will be some changes to the way tune-up shops work, especially around the quality / level of parts they stock. More on that soon.
It is worth noting that we do encourage you to recycle your speed cards for tokens. Targeted rolls are a very good alternative to tune-up shops. Definitely worth buying out the parts from the tune-up shop and recycling them. […]

I’ve traded in all the speedcards I no longer need as you are far more likely to get a higher level card using the spin wheel option than what’s available to buy.
