News Snatch: Border Break, Monster Hunter World, And PlayStation Porn Stats

Filth!

Hello there, welcome to the first Snatch of 2018 and it’s a short one this week because the world of video games takes ages to kick back in action after the festive period. We start with odd news that Police front man and lover of tantric sex, Sting (ask your Dad), will be lending his voice to indie title Where The Water Tastes Like Wine. He will be playing a wolf, because reasons.

Introspective adventure title Anamorphine has been delayed a little until the end of this quarter, it needs a few more weeks of final polish before it launches on PC, HTC Vive, Oculus Rift, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation VR.

Border Break, which began life as an Japanese arcade game back in 2009 is coming to PlayStation 4 as a free to play 10v10 mech brawler. The new version will include a single player campaign as well as a variety of match types. The game is scheduled for Japan only at the moment but may find it’s way over here later in 2018.

Street Fighter V is going down for server maintenance, “We will perform server maintenance from 5am to 12pm on 1/16 PST”

Dontnod’s Vampyr is getting a weekly four-part web series to complement the game.

Watch the teaser trailer, for this unique webseries produced and realized by the video department of Focus Home Interactive. In each 5-minute episode, the French developer invites fans into the heart of their Parisian studio to unveil exclusive new gameplay footage accompanied with deep insight into their creative process, beginning with Episode I: Making Monsters on January 18.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will finally make its way to Steam on 1st February.

PlayStation 4 is outselling Xbox One by a fair margin so its not wonder than that the most used console to visit P0rnHub is the PS4. The most used handheld device for p0rn on the go is the PS Vita, perhaps because it has a lovely OLED screen.

The weird purple pirate is back to demonstrate another mechanic found in Monster Hunter World. I think this is about slide attacks, but frankly I have no idea.

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds has sold over 3 million copies in less than one month on Xbox One.

And Finally, Senran Kagura news, and you know what that means! The first Senran news of the year is that Senran Kagura Burst is being remade for PS4 as Senran Kagura Burst Re:Newal, and changing from a side scroller in to a full 3d fighter as it does so. We have the opening animation and theme song which… oh my… does… not… have… any… improbable boobs.

Oh. Wait. There we go, there’s some animated improbable boobs at the end. Huzzah!

If those Pornhub numbers are just for PS4 and XBone, that means the XBone has sold 42m? Which is possibly a bit high. I guess that just means XBox owners are just bigger wankers than PS4 owners?

Of course, if that includes the PS3 and 360, my maths (which might be right) suggests the XBone has sold less than 10m. Which can’t be right.

I suspect if the PS4 browser was updated to included WebVR, things might be different. None of that pesky sideloading things into the popular porn-app (sorry, video-app) Littlstar. At least that’s what a friend told me you have to do. ;)

I was writing up a feature on VR porn on PSVR and.. well, it was either utterly rubbish or really quite disturbing, so I stopped.

Yes, it can be quite disturbing. Creepy eye contact from the “actors” is not something you really want. Things being shoved in your face is not quite so bad, but they maybe get a bit close at times.

Taking the headset off to find someone made you a nice cup of tea is probably the most disturbing thing of all though. (That’s an old tale of non-VR porn)

And by “so I stopped”, we’ll just assume you meant “I got distracted”. Or possibly “I had to try and find a sock” ;)

No I stopped. Obvs I watching some man on man action, and the viewpoint was as if the camera was strapped on one of the participant’s head, but was a fixed point. So you just laid there and it felt quite rapey.

I know the sort of thing you mean. I’m not sure it’s “quite rapey” though. Just more “someone being a bit bored while 1 or more other people do things”. Which isn’t really what you want. And the creepy eye contact is just creepy.

They’ve not quite got the hang of VR porn yet, I don’t think. That first person view is an obvious thing to try, but doesn’t really work. Especially if that person is obviously trying not to move too much and wobble the camera about.

Mind you, there’s something odd about VR games if you look down and see your VR body. There’s a body there, but you know it’s not yours and it feels odd for some reason. Arms are fine, probably because you’re moving them about with the controllers and feel more connected to them.

It’s early days still, and they might get it right eventually. But for now it’s somewhere between “a bit creepy” and “quite rapey” and at best “just about gets the job done”. And “getting the job done” while you can’t see your surroundings has it’s own problems (furniture related accidents, inadvertently befouling your pets and loved ones, that sort of thing).

Not quite what I was expecting to be thinking about and posting on a Friday afternoon. Where’s the “what we played” post?
