UK Charts 27/01/18 – Monster Hunter: World Hunts Down The Top Spot

After what feels like aeons with not much change at the top of the UK retail charts, Call of Duty: WWII has been knocked off its perch by not one, but two major new games. Monster Hunter: World assumes the top spot with the best first week return that the series has enjoyed in its 13 year history. The best previous first week came with Monster Hunter: Generations, which released for 3DS in 2016 and charted in 3rd. Of course, with the series now on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, it’s no surprise that it has a much broader reach in the UK than previous games, especially with strong marketing and critical acclaim.

Behind Monster Hunter came Dragon Ball FighterZ, but while it sold roughly the same number as 2015’s Dragon Ball Xenoverse, it’s managed to set a new series record in chart position, coming in 2nd as opposed to 3rd. It’s a major shift for the franchise, with Arc System Works creating a more traditional fighting game while capturing the anime series’ visual style in spectacular fashion.

The other new releases in the top 20 saw Supermassive Games’ Until Dawn prequel The Inpatient reach 10th and the boxed release of Pokémon Crystal come in 12th.

  1. Great to see it on top spot. Enjoyed it so much over the weekend, I’m not sure I’ll be able to stop playing anytime soon.

  2. Glad to see impatient up there in top 10. PSVR has an audience willing to shell out.

But i can see soon enough soon releasing it without needing VR
