Assetto Corsa Competizione Announced, Featuring The Blancpain GT Series

Early Access this summer.

For many people, Assetto Corsa is the best of the more accessible sim racers out there, with its detailed reproduction of its roster of high end cars just that little bit closer to real world handling than its peers. Now Kunos Simulazioni and 505 Games have announced a follow up: Assetto Corsa Competizione.

This game will heading into Steam Early Access this summer.

Think of this as the GT Sport to Assetto Corsa’s Gran Turismo… 6, I guess. Tortured comparison aside, the centrepiece of Competizione is the license to the Blancpain GT Series, bringing the GT3 endurance championship to life with official drivers, teams, cars and circuits. If you’re racing online, then a new ranking system will track your performance and behaviour to reward the best and fairest drivers.

A major shift from the in-house game engine of Assetto Corsa, Kunos are now using Unreal Engine 4 for the graphics, and will have realistic weather conditions recreated within this, letting you take on the Spa 24H Endurance race with all the unpredictability that offers. All the track have been laser scanned for accuracy as well.

Kunos Simulazioni co-founder Marco Massarutto said, “This announcement represents a dream come true for us. The Blancpain GT Series license is just the top of the iceberg; by combining the potential of Unreal Engine 4 and the feedback received from our community, we are producing a completely new simulation aimed to redefine the racing game genre, improving the features that made Assetto Corsa so popular, and introducing those demanded by players for a high-level racing simulation game – with no compromise, and remaining loyal to our philosophy.”

Definitely one to watch, very closely.
The first game is very good so an improvement on that with the Unreal engine should be super good.
