Something For The Easter Weekend – 31/03/18

Egg hunting and pranks.

If yesterday felt like Saturday and today feels like Sunday, I’m going to be very confused by the time Monday rolls around. I hope you’re all enjoying the extra-long Easter weekend, whether it’s visiting family, fretting over a nice roast dinner tomorrow, going to church, or simply using it as an excuse to eat egg-shaped chocolates while playing video games.

Since tomorrow happens to also be April Fools, have you got any epic wheezes you’re planning to pull?

The week was slightly shorter that usual, but that doesn’t mean there was any less news, so let’s dive right in:

In the News This Week

Competitions

It had been a while since we last held a giveaway on TSA, but we broke out our competition entry form for a pretty big one, as we gave away a copy of Far Cry 5 and a bag of goodies.

Plenty of you entered, but the first name out of the hat was Michael W. He’s already been contacted and his prize will be winging its way through the post to him as soon as possible.

Games in Review

Turning to the reviews, and this week’s headline act was Far Cry 5. Have you picked up this bombastic open world shooter sequel?

This Week’s Features

With so many reviews to clear, it was pretty light on the other features this past week. Dom’s escapades at GDC saw him dig into the rather enticing action of GRIP, a spiritual successor to the PS1’s Rollcage. He then got his hands on with Sword Art Online: Integral Factor, which seeks to bring the pseudo-MMO anime series to mobile for the first time, while preserving everything that makes the anime so popular.

Bungie are still trying to turn Destiny 2 around, as they struggle to keep up with the demands and desires of the community. This week they released the ‘Go Fast’ update, speeding up the game significantly in an attempt to make the PvP more fun in particular. Did it succeed? Jake ventured back in to investigate.

Finally, What We Played features Sea of Thieves, Far Cry 5 and Detective Pikachu.

Your Achievements

Let’s check in with the community this week:

  • With the big old updates for GT Sport and Wipeout Omega Collection bringing more VR goodness, MrYd dove into both. GT Sport’s still a bit lacking, but Wipeout VR is “possibly the best VR thing now.”
  • JR.’s gaming list includes: Blackwood Crossing, Eekeemoo, Lara Croft GO, Assassin’s Creed Rogue and Black the Fall. Head here to find out what he thinks of each.
  • It’s a game of two halves for ron_mcphatty, who’s definitely been enjoying the Call of Duty WWII campaign, but not been enjoying the multiplayer.
  • Andrewww has been making some good progress in Bloodbourne, but found the with boss a bit easy, then got very confused when he died in Lower Yharnam and woke up somewhere completely different. He’s no idea what’s going on, but he’s loving it!
  • Also on a Souls adventure, TSBonyman is “literally balls deep” in the swamps of Farron.

If you want to be included in this section, make sure to comment on What We Played of a Friday evening.

The Week Ahead

After the business of the last few weeks, this week looks very subdued. Then again, what I’ve heard of Adventure Pals is brilliantly nonsensical.

  • Penny-Punching Princess – Switch, Vita – 03/04
  • The Adventure Pals – PS4, XBO, PC – 03/04
  • Island Time – PSVR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive – 03/04
  • Minit – PS4, XBO, PC – 03/04
  • Crisis on the Planes of the Apes –PSVR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive– 03/04
  • Impact Winter – PS4, XBO – 05/04

Don’t forget the clocks change tomorrow and we’ll catch you next week!

I was going to give the latest Hitman dlc/episode a go today but thought I would give the GT Sport VR time trial a quick go but got so engrossed that I was still playing three hours later. I especially enjoyed the dirt tracks which are much more fun (& quicker) in VR.

I did buy Farcry5 and have been playing it….. kind of bored. Have played and enjoyed Batman S5 and PES18 though.

Unless soneone proves otherwise, I’m quite sure no one has much of a clue what’s going on in Bloodbourne…
But, I’m fine with that. :o)

All I remember is that there’s a boss with the same name as an annoyingly whiny character from Deep Space 9, and I hate them both equally.
