Fortnite's Back Online After A Day Of Emergency Maintenance

50v50 V2 delayed.

It’s OK, those angry monsters that are your kids will have calmed down again as Epic Games have brought Fortnite back online after a day of emergency maintenance. The problem emerged after the major patch on Wednesday, and Epic blame a critical failure in an account service database, which required them to take the servers down, investigate the issue, try to fix it and then cross their fingers that everything wouldn’t fall over again.

As of around 8PM last night, things are back up and running.

However, it’s having a knock on effect on the game, as Epic have decided that they need to postpone the 50v50 V2 event that was set to take place this weekend. It’s understandable, given the scale of the issue they had to divert efforts to fix.

To make up for the downtime, they’re giving away some free goodies over the next week. This weekend Battle Royale players can pick up the Back Bling gift from the store for free, and there will be a Battle Stars pack next week. Save the World players will get a Troll Stash Llama in the loot tab for free, and Seasonal Gold next week as well.

They’re going to go into what happened exactly soon, but separately, Epic are releasing another patch this morning at 8AM GMT to address a few little issues. Luckily, they wrote that it “requires no downtime”.

Bug Fixes:

  • ‘Building Edit’ hotkey can be bound to keys other than ‘G’
  • Fixed an issue where players could fire weapons before the equip animation had finished, if they were sprinting.
  • Fixed several client crashes that were related to the new Replay System.
  • Fixed an issue that broke player’s walking/sprinting animations if they were firing a Guided Missile while walking/sprinting.
