[UPDATE] Sony Have "Nothing To Add" Regarding The Fortnite Switch Problem

The mainstream media has started reporting the uproar regarding the problem that if you have played Fortnite on PS4 you can’t use the same account on Switch. No such restrictions are in place if you have played the game on Xbox One, PC, or mobile.

The BBC CNBC , SkyVariety and others have posted the story and the BBC managed to get a weak statement from Sony.

We’re always open to hearing what the PlayStation community is interested in to enhance their gaming experience. With… more than 80 million monthly active users on PlayStation Network, we’ve built a huge community of gamers who can play together on Fortnite and all online titles. We also offer Fortnite cross-play support with PC, Mac, iOS, and Android devices, expanding the opportunity for Fortnite fans on PS4 to play with even more gamers on other platforms.

We have nothing further to add beyond this at this point.

Variety also managed to get hold of Epic and they refused to comment. Meanwhile, Microsoft are have a little bit of a troll.

UPDATE: “We embrace working with a developer and enabling them to bring their vision to life,” said Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime . “And whether that’s Fortnite, whether that’s a number of the other games that have cross-platform play on our console, from a developer standpoint that’s what we want. And we work hard with them to bring that to life.

“What competitors do is their decision to make. We believe being both developer-forward and fan-forward is in the best interest of the game.”

Last I looked don’t you need to pay for Gold to play F2p games? If so why aren’t people outraged by that?

Didn’t Sony approach MS back in the 360/PS3 days to make cross play work.. but MS (leading console race) said no?

Fast forward.. now Sony giving them a taste of their own medicine and they are making a big PR who-har about it.

This sadly isn’t about cross play, but the fact that if you’ve taken your Epic account anywhere near a PS4, don’t get on using it on the switch or Xbox.

This sounds more like Epic’s issue though, other developers’ own networks (e.g ubisoft) manage multiple consoles just fine.

Other consoles handle Fortnite without blocking other consoles from it, as well.

meh, I think this is honestly much ado about nothing.

It’s a F2P game, just make another account if you are one of the few who happens to own a ps4 + switch + xbox. All you’ll sacrifice is a digital hat you may have stupidly spent money on after too much special brew.

As for full crossplay, it would be great, but if it hasn’t ever happened in the last 15+ years of online enabled console multiplayer I doubt it will suddenly happen now because of one game. Would be a much more useful feature for other games with dwindling communities (dark souls 2 anyone?)

It’s called a battle pass. You do get “digital hats” (outfits and characters) as you call it, as part of it, but it also is the levelling up and weekly challenges that make the game more fun. As someone who owns a ps4, xbox and switch i don’t particularly want to have to purchase this 3 times over for myself and then another 3 times for my daughter. Then it becomes a rather more expensive “digital hat”. Ps I don’t like “special brew”.

Judging by the name you’re a Tottenham fan, and therefore probably prefer White Lightning ;-)

Cosmetics don’t impact gameplay, and you can set yourself you’re own arbitrary challenges if you want. Besides that, isn’t the gameplay it’s own reward? If you’re playing just to unlock challenges and not because the game is inherently fun, maybe you should reconsider that battlepass subscription…
