Epic Have Already Turned Off Fortnite Battle Royale’s New Playground Mode

Some of the more inventive additions to Fortnite have been causing Epic a fair bit of trouble over the last month or so, and less than 24 hours after adding the Playground limited time mode into Fortnite, Epic have now removed it to try and resolve various issues.

A simple note posted on Reddit by the team reads:

We know you want to get back out to the Playground LTM. We’ve got multiple teams working to get this mode back into your hands so you can let your imaginations run wild.

We want to inform you that the Playground LTM will remain closed for repairs for the night. We’ll have more information available tomorrow.

This comes amidst stability and performance issues following the 4.5 update, though these mainly seem to have been affecting the game on PC and had a quick hotfix pushed out to fix a memory leak.

Epic haven’t had much luck lately. They added a shopping trolley vehicle to the game at the end of May, but were forced to remove it after players started glitching under the map and cheating. Their attempt to add it back into the game a couple weeks ago lasted just a couple of hours. It’s disappointing, especially when the trolley featured in a few trailers for the game’s Switch launch.

Fingers crossed the issues with the Playground mode can be fixed sooner rather than later. It’s been a lovely source of experimentation in the community already, whether it’s building entire football stadiums, or rigging Tilted Towers so they can be destroyed with a single shot.
