While Skyrim has been the talk of the town in recent times, mostly praise but there has been some gripes, I'm personally looking forward to what they can do to the next Fallout (in the hopes that they actually make one) using the engine which Skyrim was based on.
A few things I'd like to see are …
Weapon crafting or modifying.
Changeable weather and seasons in the assumption that it'll be a lengthy story.
A much larger map area which goes outside of the confines of the squares of F3 and F:NV, perhaps incorporating an island.
It's already a game with a ton of scope and options and yet still has so much potential. Let me know what you, the community would like to see!

More of the same really for me. Hopefully a new engine will bring smoother shooting mechanics where the hit recognition is a bit more spot on.
I already have enjoyed the stories to New Vegas and 3 so again more of the same. Not sure about the setting though. I didn't like the confined city aspect of Fallout 3 so I wouldn't wan't to see a setting like New York (btw I am unclear on the background story so not sure what places can be used). I am more into the large exploration side of the game so the New Vegas area was perfect for me.
Also more in game radio's!

For me? Fallout 3, with more weapon customisation like New Vegas (though on a larger scale), though perhaps with the ability to craft new weapons, and a larger variety of enemies would suit me perfectly. I *loved* Fallout 3, even more than I did Skyrim and Oblivion, though I didn't enjoy New Vegas half as much.

I don't mind that driving is missing, fast travel solves all for me.

Don't know what it was about F:NV but I didn't like it as much as F3 either. I think the hotter climate was a bit to do with it and the story didn't appeal as much. Still a great game though!

I considered vehicles in my original post but decided against it. If the map was a lot larger, it might work but I wouldn't want to risk it becoming more like Rage where you drive between hubs. I think a lot of the appeal with Fallout is that you never know when you're going to find something new and stumble upon different things without realising.

Some other form of transport other than fast travelling or walking. It was such a pain having to walk from one end of the map to the other to find key places (The Oasis and the tunnel leading to The Pitt) when you haven't already discovered them. So maybe a car or riding a brahmin (Skyrim style)
The new questing system, weather effects and maybe less bugs.

Tighter controls – specifically improve the smoothness of aiming to make it easier to hit stuff outside of V.A.T.S
Better animation – it all still looks a bit Deus Ex (original)
3rd person camera – copy Dark Souls on this bethesda.
Do away with encumberance (it improved Dark Souls over Demon's Souls immeasurably) and make looting work like RAGE (ie: I sweep an entire shelf of stuff with one button press)
Weather effects – as mentioned by others, I'm sure after Skyrim that we'll see this.
Do away with degradation of weapons and armour – it rendered the T-51Bs utterly pointless
Don't allow me to accidentally repair a shitty hunting rifle with my named rifle/lincoln repeater.
A more sinister feel, closer to that of The Road than Mad Max would be welcome too.
Crafting – of weapons and armour, allowing statistical buffs to our lovingly made weapons :)

If it's set on the west coast. I want to see the very last Brotherhood Of Steel outpost as they've been decimated by the NCR and it would be interesting to see what they would resort to.
I want to see more factions and have more benefits/disadvantages when you help them/attack them. Also, more settlements. And if you join a faction, have a lot of quests as you basically did naff all for the faction you joined in fallout 3/NV.
Limited weather effects as it's a post apocoyspic world. For example, you could come accross a radioactive hurricane etc..
A realism mode. It's basically a more in depth hardcore mode. You have a limited amount of space in your inventory, you have to eat, drink and sleep. But if you don't, negative effects will happen. For example, you will start having trouble keep a gun still, carrying a melee weapon etc..
To be able to create your own weapons out of anything. It should be linked to your repair skill and intelligence. Think of Dead Island's create a weapon system. Also, be able to create our own armour out of salvaged armours. For example, a 51TLB power armour shoulder pad could be use to protect your shoulder.
Have visual signs of damage to anything that can be damaged. A larger choice of weapons. F:NV now has lots of weapons.(DLC included) I want to see double the amount of it.
More of the typical Fallout 1&2 humour(F:NV did include some of it) also if you have very low intelligence, have the dialog reflect that. It happened in F1&2 with some very funny results.
I don't want to see the Enclave in any future Fallout as they are completely destroyed. Instead, i want to see an entirely new evil faction. Also a chance to turn into a Ghoul if you end up with too much radioation.
And to be able to play as Ghoul/Super Mutant or human. Each with it's advantages and disadvantages.

Exactly this. After playing Rage, I would love it see this level of smoothness in Fallout. I doubt it will happen though as Rage really is more of a FPS, since the RPG elements and character development are non-existant, and also due to the V.A.T.S system. However, if they can get something inbetween I'd be very happy.
Otherwise I wouldn't change much; perhaps a little more variety of wasteland enemies; reductions in bugs; and if someone could ensure Moire Brown doesn't feature that would be fantastic.

They need to totally change the whole thing in my opinion. I really enjoyed fallout 3 but I got totally bored by Fnv as its just exactly the same in every single way. I'm honestly not sure what they can do but it needs to be not the exact same game on a different map.

The next installment of Fallout needs to have less desert and waste land. I am sick of the grey-browny-baby turd colours. Perhaps move it to Canada and have some really lush forests and maybe some ice parts?
Also, They need to change the hacking, lock picking etc. I was really dissapointed that this was exactly the same in NV as it was in 3. Include some other new mini-game style game play to unlock doors etc and that would have made me a lot happier in NV.
Other than that, more of the same. Except this time, dont play the whole amnesia card? Felt a bit cheesy american day time soap at the start of New Vegas.

I like the lockpicking as it is, exactly the same in Skyrim too!
Something wierd I noticed when playing skyrim was that I kept pressing R2 expecting to go into VATS Mode, anyone else do this?

Haha! Yeah, I was the same, in the end I had to aim my bow without Vault-Tec's assistance. Must admit, that happens to me moving to any FPS after playing Fallout.

You do know that Fallout is set in a post nuclear war setting right? And that in Fallout New vegas, the courier is just a blank slate for people to make up their own backstories for.
I can't see it being set in Canada as Fallout has always been set in America and there is a very strong chance of F4 being set in the Commonwealth(it was mentioned in fallout 3).
I don't mind the lock picking mini game but i wish the next Fallout will have a wide variety of locks. I mean, they look different depending on what the lock is on. For example, An abandoned vault lock could be very rusted and requires 75 lockpick.
I would like to see the hacking minigame either get revamped or removed as it's not very fun. I think in the original Fallouts, it was instantly done if your science skill was high enough to hack into the computer.
I hope that those fecking cazadors don't make an appearance in Fallout 4 as they are annoying as hell. A hunting shotgun or riot shotgun will do the trick or a guass rifle but still, they are very annoying. I understand the devs wanting to put in a challenging flying creature but that was too far.
Speaking of enemies, more enemy types and prehaps make Deathclaws rarer but extremly hard to kill even if you have the right weapons. As Deathclaws in Fallout 3 were a joke. Just get the dart gun and combat shotgun then go Deathclaw hunting. Deathclaws in New Vegas are very hard to kill. I want to see those tough sobs get even more tougher. Also bump up the exp gained from killing them.
More skills and even have some linked into each over. Survival could be more effective if you have a high medicine skill. Repair could be more effective on your chosen combat skill. etc..
I would like to see the level cap be at 40 as i think with the DLCs on NV, you will become overpowered.
Also, more minigames. Gambling was good in New Vegas and i actually spent more time then i had planned doing that. More side quests, even ones that are repeatable. For example, you could become a caravan guard and help protect it as many times as you please.
Oh crud, i've seem to have went on longer then i had intended to.

Also (I don't know if they did this in F:NV) but nerf feral ghoul revears, or just get rid of them completely.

What they could do, to make Fallout 4 different is create Minecraft elements, its influenced Epic with there new game? so it wouldn't be surprising to see Bethseda having a go…
