Question is in the title: What are your top 5 favorite games developers? Which ones hold a special place in your heart with the games they've made?
5) Firaxis Games: Developers of the Civilisation series, I really can't get enough of the games at time: Civ IV and it's expansion packs are the highlight of the series for me though.
4) Naughty Dog: Need I say why they are on the list? The Uncharted series is just sublime and I remember being blown away by both Uncharted and Uncharted 2 (particularly 2, that game was epic in every sense of the word to me, personally). Yet to complete Uncharted 3 but enjoyed what I did play.
3) DICE: Why? Battlefield 3, but more so with the Bad Company series (especially 2) really caught me off guard and I've both BC2 and BF3 very heavily on PS3, and will continue to do so for a long, long time. FPS perfection.
2) Massive Entertainment: They gain second spot of the merits of one game: World in Conflict. This game captivated for months upon months upon months, and has one of the most believable, realistic and enjoyable storyline of any games I've ever played, nevermind RTS's!
1) Relic Entertainment and Creative Assembly: Both developers have played an absolutely massive part in my gaming life, so I really couldn't decide between the two: Neither have made a bad game (well, Creative Assembly made one in Stormrise), and I've played each and every game from both developers for at least a hundred hours by now (again, except Stormrise). The former make Warhammer 40K games ( Space Marine is great, but Dawn of War series is my fave, though they also did Homeworld and some other games before then, and Company of Heroes more recently, both of which are also brilliant) and the Latter make the Total War series of games: which, if any of you know me, can occupy me for hours upon hours upon hours, they really are a timesink. Spartan: Total Warrior was good fun as well.
So, those are my picks, what are yours, guy's n gal's?
Bethesda – Skyrim is ludicrously engrossing.
Infinity ward – I always enjoy their cod iterations so much more than treyarchs.
Bioware – only game of theirs I've played is mass effect 2, but its a serious contender for my favourite game of all time.
I agree with dice, bf3 online really is well made and I really must get back into it.
Erm, final one? Can't think at the moment, I appreciate there is nothing mind blowing in my list but hey ho, I'm not going to say something obscure just for the hell of it.
Square Enix: I'm a huge Final Fantasy fan. What can I say?
Nintendo: I grew up with Mario and Zelda and wouldn't want to miss those games.
Oddworld Inhabitants: Oddworld: Abe's Oddyssee and Abe's Exodus hold a special place in my heart.
Volition: Loved the original Red Faction games and Guerilla is probably one of my all time favourite games.
Gearbox: Borderlands is right up there with Red Faction Guerilla on my list and Half Life: Blue Shift and Opposing Force were also games that I have fond memories of.
I couldn't list 5, but a team that constantly appeals to my sense of the unique is Double Fine (most recent games Stacking and Costume Quest, humble beginnings in Lucas Arts with Monkey Island etc). Oddworld Inhabitants is also a great shout.
Ubisoft Montreal – Responsible for great games like Rainbow Six, Far Cry and the Assassins Creed games.
Ensemble Studios – Whilst the only thing they've made is the Age of Empires games, I love all of them, especially 2.
Infinity Ward – I love the old COD's as well as the MW's. I think IW are one of the best in the industry for the way they tell a story and really get you to emotionally connect with the characters.
EA LA – Made the old Medal Of Honour games which I really enjoyed, especially Rising Sun.
Creative Assembly – I love the Total War series, Rome is my personal favourite.
DICE – I loved BFBC1, and thought BFBC2 was ok. I think their best game has still been Mirrors Edge.
Naughty Dog – Uncharted, Uncharted, Uncharted. Uncharted 2 is still one of the best looking games on PS3
Nintendo – Super Mario World on the SNES (with the various different Yoshi's was awesome); as was Mario Kart, Mario 64 and all of the Zelda games.
Infinity Ward – I love the Modern Warfare series and spent over 31 days on MW2 online alone. And whilst it's accumulated some hate on the way, no one can question that CoD4 has paved the way for all military shooters.
Square Enix/Squaresoft – Final Fantasy VII and IX were amazing. I loved these on PSOne.
I would have liked a 6th spot for EA/Visceral Games for Dead Space 1 & 2. It has been my favourite next gen, new IP highlight
Valve, Sega, 2K Games, Bethesda and Ubisoft are probably all worth a mention too.
Good shout DrNate regarding Costume Quest's developer (although I didn't get on with Stacking). For PSN game, Housemarque have been a small-developer highlight for me with the excellent Dead Nation, and DLC.
So, I've basically listed all of them. Bugger. But the first 5 are my favourites!
Sucker Punch-Obviously for Sly Cooper and now most probably the inFamous series top notch developers who have made my favourite series this Gen after Uncharted and Mass Effect 2
Bioware-Mass Effect 2 like TonyCawley is proably one of my favourite games off all time it's such an epic game with a huge vast world with a compelling story that never seems to get boring or repetitive by far my favourite game this Gen and possibly of all time..Ohh and Dragon Age wasn't bad either!
Rockstar-They created some of the most infamous games in modern day gaming GTA Series was epic and not only that you add the likes off Max Payne,Smugglers Run and the Midnight Club series that some of my all time favourite games right there!!
Naughty Dog-The Uncharted Series is the apple in the PS3s Eye creating possibly the best experiance on the system, the storys are always so gripping and the gameplay is second to none but what really set Uncharted out is the epic scale of action it's like Tomb Raider x10! They have mad great games for every gen PS1 Crash Bandicoot took the gaming world bu storm, then when the PS3 came out the first Jax and Daxter was literally awesome not one bad thing i could say about it.
I could only think of 4 that truely stand out for me but i appreciate every developer the good and the bad for giving us great games and sometimes games that are that bad there fun! honourable mentions to Ubisoft Montreal,Gearbox,Berthesda and so many more!
Simply for their response to Beta feedback in the Starhawk Beta. Unbelievable game with a dedicated team
4 – Ubisoft
Generally awesome games e.g Assassin's Creed
3 – Codemasters
Fantastic racing games. Love all the series they do!
2 – Danger Close
Created the most realistic shooter campaign I have experienced with the exception of the Flashpoint series. Hope they make the multiplayer for Medal of Honor 2 this time!
Criterion, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, Valve, Game Freak, Irrational Games, Neversoft, Studio Liverpool… so many, how to choose?
Well, here goes:
5. Naughty Dog: Uncharted and Crash. Fantastic work, creating two icons of gaming.
4. Criterion Games: Burnout Legend is one of the best racers ever, only beaten by Wipeout HD. Takedown and Paradise weren't bad either, were they? Especially the fantastic support provided for Paradise- how many things were added free before some truly great additions were put on sale?
3. SCE Studio Liverpool: Wipeout series. Go play Wipeout HD on a HDTV (or 3DTV if you're rich enough), on Phantom class, and wonder why you're not feeling the actual forces in the game. No racer comes near the sheer speed, or the extremely tight control, fantastic weapons, and then the graphics… Arguably better than Uncharted.
2. Game Freak: The Pokémon series might well be the greatest series I've played, and is the best reason to own a Gameboy, DS, and will presumably be the best reason to buy 3DS too.
1. Insomniac Games: Resistance, Ratchet & Clank, Disruptor, and of course, Spyro. The definition of versatility, and truly great. The juxtaposition of Spyro and Resistance push them to no.1 for me, on my list above only ND and Valve have diversified their games, but Insomniac pushes it to another level entirely, and all their games I've played have been great.
I still mourn the fact they only made three Spyro games… :(
5) Bethesda – How could you not include them on the list, Elder Scrolls and Fallout are such amazing games.
4) Dice – Battlefield 3 and Bad Company series
3) Rocksteady Studios – They practically came out of nowhere with Arkham Asylum and Arkham City two of my favourite games from the last few years
2) Westwood Studios/EA Los Angeles/Bioware Victory – For the Command and Conquer series all of which have been top quality games especially Red Alert 2 from Westwood and Generals/Generals Zero Hour from EA LA, Really looking forward to seeing what Bioware do with Generals 2 aswell
1) Rebellion – For making quite possibly my favourite game ever Sniper Elite and what I'm hoping will be amazing Sniper Elite V2
