I'm getting exceedingly pee'd off with "Pre order" bonuses

I've just seen Play have a wodge of pre-order bonuses for RAC:ACIT and it's starting to annoy me a lot.

All these extra weapons, skins for ships, Home costumes- whatever it is, costs time and money for the developer to make. If you pre order the game, you get some bonus stuff. If you dont and buy it a week later, you pay the same price, but do not get the extra gubbins – so you are paying for pre-order Pete to have the free stuff developed for him. And then they go and charge for the pre-order "free" stuff as DLC, even thought you're actually "paid" for it anyway.

Its bloody annoying. Either put the features in the game or dont, and have them as DLC so everyone pays.

The trouble is that your method does not give them the big "first week sales" that gets them the number one slot, which in turn leads to more sales.  It is a shame that the consumer is used in this way, but is unfortunately a fact of life we will all have to get used to.

Ultimately, it's to make money. Like with MW2, they have already announced a map pack before the game has been released. They wouldn't add the maps into the game because they know they can make more money if they release them separately. Either that or Kottick is a tosser. Or both.

Or the maps aren't made yet? As far as I know they've announced the map pack is being released and that's it.

Personally, doesnt bother me in the slightest. I like that they give you a little something for a Day 1 sale.

Dont see how it could piss anyone off really…theres worse things in the gaming world. ie having to "fix" a game after release.

I actually think they're quite nice/good.

Its a way of showing loyalty to their loyal fans, by giving them something a little extra for pre-ordering the game. Its also a way for them to persuade more people to buy it at the higher price, since every game aside from CoD drops in price after about a month (or less).

The main annoyance I find is that all the retailers manage to get different pre-order bonuses. It should be a clear cut standard version and premium version for a couple quid more. The way it is now is only done so that they don't feel as much need to enter into a free fall price war. If everyone's got a different bonus, they've each got an incentive aside from the pricing.

Personally, Im more into getting a special box/case and maybe some art cards than these DLC bonuses. What is a bit off putting is the ridiculous prices. Im not getting MW2 till its dropped to £35 tops, and I don't see how Game can really justify the £10 premium for the special edition of ACiT (Uncharted 2 steelbook dropped to £40 for a while, used to be £50 and is now £45).

If Shopto could get their hands on more of these special editions, and have them at their more reasonable prices, I'd be more likely to splash out. I got Uncharted 2 steelbook for £30 because I redeemed a big load of my saved up points, and I can't really afford to get ACiT's digibook for the £50 they want, so hopefully that'll drop down to £40 and I can use the rest of my saved points to nab that…

Car industry launch car:

New Ford Mondeo. Pre-order and we'll upgrade your stereo to a seven speaker blah, blah, blah as way of saying thanks for being one of the early adopters. After launch you will have to pay for the extra.

I don't have a problem with that or what they're doing in the games world. *sweeps up Tuffcub 'splosion* Eww.

Wel im goign to get my games from Asda from now one – id rather have them at half price rather than an extra skin for my character as a pre-order.

The main reason I get pre-orders is that the price is usually lower and I only do it for "must have" games. DiRT 2 was £31.87 pre order then once it was released it was £37.

What really annoys me is that the special/collector's editions are not even up for sale…. and you can't really get them everywhere…

I love the Uncharted 2 Collectors Edition, but is only available in the US (by competition only)
Furthermore I love the PS3 Final Fantasy XVIII Limited Edition but is only available in Japan

I could order from GAME for their extra's, but it will cost me extra to deliver it to me too :S

Im willing to bet that the Maps will be just cut from COD4 with maybe one map added from the single player story. I seriously doubt all the maps will be new and havnt been made yet…
