Anyone else seen this?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/h…..362295.stm

Looks like Brawn is basically out of contention for next year since… well… they wont exist! They've been bought up buy Mercedes and a group from Abu Dhabi and are now Mercedes Grand Prix. Ross Brawn will stay on as team principle, but Jensen is out and Rosberg and Heidfeld are likely the two in the seats.

Apparently Button's been seen having talks with McLaren so it's possible that we'll have an all Hamilton and Button in McLaren's next year, though where that leaves Raikkonen is anyone's guess.

So everything's completely up in the air once again.

My reckoning is that if Button is with McLaren next year, he's not going to be doing too well. It's going to be a fast car, sure, but Button can be quite temperamental if thing's aren't just right, whilst Hamilton can really get the job done and has shown some brilliant pace at the end of this year, especially in qualifying, which is where Button is going to be losing his races if he can't get into the top 4 spots.

Add a resurgent Ferrari with Massa and Alonso, and Vettel at Red Bull into the mix and I can't see Button making much headway in 2010.

So it is now official. Button joins Mclaren.

For Jenson to go there does make sense as he wants to prove he is a quick driver and if he can beat Lewis in the same car then that would prove it beyond doubt.

From what i hear Jenson wasn't offered a contract with the Brawn/Mercedes team so he had no choice but to go to McLaren!

I'm glad he has gone to McLaren, next season will be fantastic hodgi

Even if they don't, they can send it out as a patch.

Also, for those who care, Raikkonen is leaving F1 for a year and trying out a rallying career.

I honestly believe that Lewis is by far the best driver out there, If he has the car to compete with the top runners (unlike the majority of this season) then he will always be in the mix for the championship, and hes still young and has a good 15 years left in the sport to prove just that.

When you see what he can do with an average car it just proves how good he is, Alonso is the same although I think he is an arrogant prick.

Think this could be the best year ever for McLaren, with 2 world class drivers. I agree with Roynaldo, Lewis is still the best driver out there and i think Vettel is probably second best. Those two deffo have a bright future ahead of them in F1.

Yup it is an exciting prospect and F1 really has turned around from watching the paint dry for some people to great expection in waiting. Brrrrrrring it on.

It's just words in a menu, so of course they can… Of course, the AI system will likely be rather similar to some of Codemaster's other properties, so they'll simply tweak the stats and shift the names around.

The only other important thing is the helmet design, but you'd barely get to see that…

I want to echo what Roynaldo said and what that clever teflon chap implied before Wink. In the same car, I believe that Hamilton is the faster driver, and Button can often struggle if his car isn't perfect. I mean, just look at how Barrichello bounced back half way through this year, he was easily faster than Button for half the year in the same car, and Hamilton is faster than Barrichello for sure.

It's going to be interesting to see how the pit lane politics play out. I can see it getting very messy if and when Button comes out second best. The same goes for Ferrari with Alonso and Massa. Alonso didn't play nice with Hamilton, so is he coming in to be Ferrari's lead driver? or is he the backup? or what?

So glad that the British GP is back at Silverstone. We should see some big improvements to the pit and paddock, especially as its for the next 17 years.

The track will also be modifyed for MotoGP, and new stands will be built:

However the F1 British GPrace will be on Sunday, 11 July – the same day as the 2010 World Cup final Surprised.

I can't believe its for 17 years. That's a really long time. I thought it was a typo when I read it. Not that its a bad thing.

Just saw this        http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/h…..407119.stm

So the FIA are introducing a new points system with 25 for a win 20 for second and then 15,10,8,6,5,3,2,1, respectively.

That means that the top ten finishers will receive points instead of just the top eight.

I think its a good idea to reward the higher placed drivers more but I dont know if they have the right balance between the places, only time will tell on that one.

The other thing I am not so sure on is that finishing tenth will get you a point. It used to be a real achievement  for a driver to get in the points when they had to finish in the top 6 but now its relatively easy if you just need top ten. Of course there are now more teams on the grid (Renault are staying as well) so I suppose it has evened that out a bit.

I dunno… I don't think I like it.

Yes, I can see that they needed to increase the number of drivers scoring points, but now the differences between the top four places are ridiculous which means that it's still going to just be the top 3 drivers in each race that pull way ahead of the rest of the pack… So thats a "meh" from me…

Renault being back is great too. Yes, there was the whole cheating scandal, but they're on of the few big success stories of the decade, after coming into it and working their socks off to win two consecutive championships against the tide of Ferrari's dominance.

So it's good to see them stick it out another few years.

I suppose a lot of it will come down to how competitive the grid is this year. If its only 2 teams that are winning then it wont really work but if there are 4 (or maybe more) teams that can challenge for wins then it would make it more interesting.

I can see McLaren, Ferrari, Red Bull and Mercedes all challenging for wins but you never know until the first race, Just look at what happened to McLaren and Ferrari this season.

Also I was so disappointed when I heard that Manor F1 will now be Virgin Racing. I was looking forward to a team called Manor.Frown

More F1 news

Lotus F1 have signed Jarno Trulli and Heikki Kovalainen as their Driver line up for 2010. This looks like a very good pairing for a new team, not only in terms of pace but they should be able to develop the car due to the experience of the two. It does show that Lotus are serious about being the best of the newcomers.
