Merry Christmas people,
I had my PS3 playing Christmas music whilst me and the family were having Christmas dinner and when I go in to the living room to restart the music (as it had stopped) I found that my PS3 would not turn on. It now flashes green, yellow and then flickers a red lght. From what the internet searches have told me, my PS3 is now needing a replacement. I recently upgraded to a 320gb HDD instead of getting a PS3 slim and selling this one as I was conscience of having a 3 year old PS3 but I went for the cheaper option and that just backfired big time.
I won't let this effect my Christmas!

Gutted for you but don't let it affect Christmas, as you say. However, get a repair priced up. A few of the TSA chaps here may well be able to recommend someone online.

Get it repaired, sell it whilst it's still working and then buy a slim.

Just organised a replacement with Sony. £128 and I get the same 60gb model as a replacement. I like my 4 USB slots and backwards compatibility so I think this is the best option for me personally. I did check out the heatgun fix video but it looks a bit risky, anyone here tried it?

I havn't personally tried it myself but I have heard quite a few stories of that working. Apparently it makes the PS3 work for a couple more weeks but then unfortunately dies again.
There is also a trick where apparently you hold a hair-dryer close to the vents for 10 minutes, and that makes the PS3 work as well.

Well after reading this you have made my mind up for me.
With the last bit of Christmas money I am going down to game (hopefully today) and trading in my 60gb for a slim.
It's been on the cards for ages but I could never justify spending a £100+ just to replace what I've got, but with repairs costing £75-£125 and a lot of 60gb PS3s dying recently I think it's a wise move.
Does anyone know the current trade in price for a 60gb? Last time I looked it was £120, and do you have to take everything back with it? (I would like to get away with keeping a controller!)

Well I traded in my old 60gb and got a new slim line only problem is though after doing a full back up to USB disk I would of thought it would of kept my downloaded games but it hasn't (probably because they are copy protected )
so it looks like my ps3 is going to be doing a lot of downloading over night

As far as backing up and restoring goes did they add in an option to backup and restore everything, instead of backing up everything and not restoring copy-protected saves to a new PS3? That pissed me off last time.
