Hi Everyone,
I posted a long while ago on here when I was concerned about my PS3 60 Gig model and it's increasingly worrying behaviour, well I'm sorry to say that a while ago it YLODed on me and I ended up getting a new PS3 Slim which has been wonderful since the day I first plugged it in.
However 2 weeks ago it got some Coke (the drink ;-)) spilled on it – not a huge amount – but it appears to have been enough to cause a problem for the console. To make matters worse the bulk of it was on the on/off and eject buttons – which as they are now buttons not touch pads are an easy way into the system.
Obviously I cleaned it up and dried it off after the incident. Soon after I plugged it in again the console started up by it's self – it works fine, everything on it seems 100% OK until I turn it off or eject a game.
Ejecting works fine from the software and works from the button but also shuts down the PS3.
Turning the console off is a huge problem. The machine beeps between 8 and 10 times when turning off using the button, the software (and the eject button). It then starts up by its self randomly either immediately or a few minutes later. I fixed the problem by running the system upside down for a while, but a couple of days after turning it the right way up again the problem came back after a long gaming session.
Now it's been upside down for a week and turned on for 3 days and the problem doesn’t seem to be going away. I'm pretty concerned about it as the PS3 Slim has no off switch on the back and I dont want to keep pulling the cable out the back through fear of bricking the whole system.
Logically it's a problem caused by the sticky Coke in the switches – has anyone got any idea how I can shift it without risking the console? I'm a Biochemistry PhD student so I have access to chemicals if anyone knows of any alcohols etc… that can be used to get rid of it. And before anyone says it I know I'm an idiot for letting coke anywhere near my PS3 but it's happened now so there’s no use me beating myself up over it.
The cover at the front of the blu ray drive was also made very tight and inflexible by the coke but I fixed that with warm soapy water applied very conservatively over several days – for obvious reasons I don’t want to put that into the system it's self, but it seems to me the problem in fixable.
The sixth axis guys and you lot in the forums have always been helpful and polite, so thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
