Event: PlayStation Day 2008

06/05/2008

Feature: PlayStation Day 2008

PlayStation Day 2008

17:34pm: Right. That's it. Let's get pissed and play some games. Thanks for tuning in...

17:32pm: He's rounding up. Sales targets delivered. Great quality software etc. Barring anything terribly exciting, we're desperate for the bar. Desperate.

17:31pm: Anything can be saved from PlayTV and exported to the PSP. Go! Explore now being pushed. Detailed 3D maps, GPS etc.

17:30pm: PlayTV - it's here on the show floor, nice. 99 Euros, September launch.

17:26pm: RockBand flashes up. And down again just as quickly. Project known as Movement mentioned - sounds like a platform for unsigned bands, cool.

17:23pm: He's now onto EchoChrome. Is this going to be 'Apple'?. Sudoku? Seriously, no it's not. Short video on EchoChrome. There are 'casual', good looking people playing it in a trendy white flat. The girl is playing it on the PSP, the boy on the PS3. See? Men in tight white suits are waving bits of furniture about.

17:22pm: Casual gaming rant. Singstar. Dance Dance Revolution. Eye Toy. Seriously love, we don't care. It might sound negative but this kind of crap is falling on deaf ears, cut to the good stuff already.

17:21pm: PS3 version? 'Watch this space'. Oh. Right.

17:18pm: PS3 the only next-gen platform for Blu-Rays. So no 360 version, then. Go! View. Sky-powered PSP movie player. June 5th. Head to goPSPgo.co.uk for more, apparently.

17:16pm: We're watching Blu-ray trailers. We're assuming there's going to be no megatons, then. Pop-up trivia my arse, show us TrIco.

17:14pm: BD-Live. Men In Black, watch... Yup. Heh!

17:13pm: 3 and half million Blu-rays sold. 1080p and 7.1 sound, don't you know? Hurry up and show us Team ICO's game, bud.

17:10pm: Now to footy. Bit boring. Blu-ray stuff, we're betting it's something to do with Men In Black, judging by the email we just got.

17:08pm: Real life video of the GT-R race car mashed with GT 5 Prologue footage. GT 5 P looks better. We kid.

17:04pm: Sport. Motorsport and Football. We assume he's talking about 'soccer'. GT 5 Prologue now. He's looking nervously to his right. It's not us. GT TV. Nissan now. Talking about the on-board computer. GT Academy. Competition: the prize? To drive the GT-R race car in 2009 in a 24 hour race. Awesome.

17:01pm: It's first person. Conspiracy based. Freedom of movement like you've never seen it before. Bigging up the PS3 quite well there dude. New trailer - all in-game footage.

16:59pm: Right, back to David. Ooh. New game. EA DICE. Oh. Mirror's Edge. Not that new, really.

16:57pm: 16 player online. 4 player local split screen. Looks like the 'old' trailer again. Getting thirsty, forgotten the bag of Stella.

16:54pm: Yep, looks nice. Very interactive. Seems like everything can be knocked, broken and, well, interacted with. Water looks ace. No more 2D bushes.

16:51pm: Video of Motorstorm - 'welcome to the island'. Hawaii themed. Seems like Nature is going to be the biggest challenge this time. No Hula. No Elvis. Shame. Oh, the Island is the greatest enemy. We were half right.

16:50pm: Motorstorm: Pacific Rift. Hi Paul Hollywood, great name, great accent.

16:48pm: Back to David. Metal Gear Solid 4 now - 12th June, bundle confirmed for Europe.

16:47pm: 60 player online won't be a massive 60 player war, it'll be split up into 4 mini-battles, with squads and rival squads, and squad objectives.

16:45pm: Big R2 deathmatch movie. Looks, well, work in progress. Sorry guys, but appears a bit 'stale'. Ted says there's still 6 months to go, mind. Stifled claps.

16:43pm: Community, Campaign, Co-op, Competition. They're revamping myresistance.net, making it more like Facebook. Proper integration with the game. Nothing on the campaign, that's secret, but Ted confirms that the action heads to 1950s America. Co-op will be 8 player online, with it's own story, own classes, experience based.

16:42pm: Killzone 2 confirmed as being playable, excellent. Now he's onto Resistance 2. 1.4 million playing online. Here's Ted Price from Insomniac.

16:40pm: Killzone 2: February next year. =( Nice video mind.

16:39pm: First person shooters: Killzone 2 and Resistance 2.

16:38pm: Oh snap. Killzone LBP mash-up. We all thought it was the wrong video. Shit the bed, LBP is going to rock. Claps. CLAPS!

16:36pm: Buzz. Import and export quizzes for free. Make your own quizzes. Back to LittleBigPlanet. 50 environments? Missed that, say again David.

16:35pm: Chewbacca. Old men. Foreign people. Elvis. That crazy Asian looking guy. All there.

16:33pm: Create. Themes. Singstar has sold a million songs. He's talking about videos from SingStar. Doesn't mention removing our 'drunken' one, though. Shame. Oh god, uploaded songs. Hope we're not on it... :/

16:32pm: More PS3s sold than Xbox 360, despite the launch date difference. Good job, David. Graphs. It's like VG Chartz. ;)

16:31pm: He's waffling about convergence again. Numbers: 12,000,000 PSPs sold, 48,000,000 PS2s, and... 5,000,000 PS3s in Europe.

16:30pm: Back to David...

16:28pm: LittleBigPlanet - due out in October this year. Cool. All about 'Interactive Entertainment'.

16:27pm: SingStar online - 1,000,000 downloads, 20,000 video uploads. Most on a Friday night, we'd wager.

16:25pm: Home. Open beta at the end of the year. He apologies for the delay, needs more time before it's ready for the wider public.

16:23pm: Aware that the first year of PS3 was tough. Talks of 10 year life span, GT 5 Prologue and GTA 4 name checked as starting this year better. Key titles mentioned include LBP and PlayTV.

16:21pm: Kaz acknowledges UK devs. Talks of exclusives. Working stronger to build relationships.

16:20pm: David Reeves makes way for Kaz Hirai. We're struggling here.

16:16pm: Ah Singstar, we love you. Ooh, SSHD Multiplayer. Ohh, Killzone 2. Ooh Motorstorm 2. It's quick and fast, unlike this blog.

16:15pm: OK, so it's all kinds of things being thrown at us. Play TV first, with what looks to be a PSP version. Play. It's all about convergence.

16:11pm: Seems like this year is all about slogans, judging by the pre-show video loop. Act, create, clan, go, etc.

16.07pm: Ah, we're off. So that's what the little triangles were all about.

16:05pm: Chances are this is going to be a total disaster. Looks like TSA has melted, and even posting updates is tough...

15:55pm: OK, we'll press on.

15:50pm: Site traffic sky high, great timing. Don't hit F5 guys, it'll change itself...

15.10pm: Confirming that LittleBigPlanet, Killzone 2, Home, Resistance 2, SOCOM, Haze - all there. Motorstorm: Pacific Rift, too.

14.30pm: An hour and a half to go. Just as a note, this page will auto refresh as required during the event, so no need to constantly hit F5.

09.45am: Change of plan: we're now able to live blog PlayStation Day 2008, so tune in later today, coffee in hand, and we'll bring you all the action direct from the event...

Kyoufu / 5/6/2008 3:50:19 PM

Isn't resistance 2 playable?
A.L / 5/6/2008 2:42:39 PM

When is E3 again? Why wouldn't they hold back their big guns until E3? Maybe this conference will mostly focus on non game things, like the TV receiver and a movie download service?
