The force will be unleashed on September the 19th in the UK, making it yet another game to be released in September (Killzone and LittleBigPlanet also come out in the same month). In case you aren’t aware of the upcoming Star Wars game to save all Star Wars games, we’ll run you through it a bit;
You play Darth Vader’s secret apprentice, and he sends you to do stuff. It’s apparently going to bridge the gap between the 3rd and 4th episodes of the saga, and the story is being directed by Lucas himself. Whilst you do play an evil character, sources say that you will be able to choose whether you end the game bowing to the darkside of the lightside of the force. Not that we at TSA know what that is, we’re not Star Wars nerds. Honest.
We don’t know much about the story, but the technology behind the game promises provide some spectacular fighting. As you may have guess, The Force Unleashed has an emphasis on the Force, which is the thing that allows Jedi’s and Sith’s to move things without touching them, see things coming and react almost superhuman-like, mess with people’s mind and, most notably, shoot lighting from their fingertips. To achieve the title of Unleashed, there are two engines behind the game;
Euphoria – gives all NPC’s realistic responses to their environment. If you pick an enemy up with the force, he’s panic and try to grab boxes, walls, doors, even other enemies to pull himself back down. Yes, you can create a daisy chain of enemies like this. If there’s an explosion near an enemy, they’ll jump and twitch, etc. It gives NPC’s realistic behaviour, making you feel all the more evil when you drop a chain of Stormtroopers off oa high ledge.
Digital Molecular Matter (DMM) – this acts on the environment, making all materials and objects in the game act realistically. If you throw someone through glass, the glass breaks as you’d expect it. If you throw someone through a pillar, the pillar falls apart, then the building falls apart at the loss of support. It sounds fantastic, we can’t wait to start destroying buildings with the force and our enemy’s heads.
The Force Unleashed looks like it’s going to be a great game, lets just hope it doesn’t let us down like most Star Wars games seem to.
