This week’s MCV magazine has a great report on how the retailers are seeing the pre-orders of GTA IV on both the PS3 and the 360. HMV’s Live Points promotion seems to be working out with a spokesperson for the high-street chain saying ‘demand for both formats is high, but our 1,000 Xbox points offer generated a huge amount of interest’ which is a clever way of saying the PS3 version is selling better, but come get your points 360 owners.
Asda’s spokesperson said ‘both titles have generated great interest on the Asda website, with strong pre-orders, and the PS3 version is selling three times that of 360, which is surprising and not in line with what we’d expect’. Yeah well, you should read TSA more, Duncan Cross, Head of Games.
Comet and GAME both round off our PS3-is-better-than-360 afternoon with the quotes ‘we have great expectations and believe it is going to be a massive hardware driver – especially on PS3’ and ‘by the end of the year the PS3 will outsell the 360, regardless of what happens with GTA IV’. So there you go. The quotes aren’t yet on the website but we’re expecting them on there pretty soon, that’s what normally happens.

Update: finally, MCV has published this story on their site.
