Caution On New IP

MCV are reporting that Sega have added their name to the list of huge publishers that will be cutting back on spending for new IP (Intellectual Property) in the coming years.

Seemingly, and despite previous claims to the contrary, EA and THQ have already said that new IP isn’t as viable due to the increased risk that it entails.

Of course, as long as the most profitable games are Madden, FIFA and Call of Duty 5 the big houses will see that sequels to proven franchises are the way to go. I just hope somebody, somewhere recognises that Wii Fit is selling like Big Macs in Memphis and notices that it wasn’t a sequel and was reasonably innovative.
