Call Of Duty 7 Not WWII?

Original Story (02/05/09):

Weekends are funny things, they’re a time when most people get chance to pick up the joypads and knuckle down to some serious gaming, but they are also a time when most press departments clear off home and actual gaming news becomes thin on the ground, it’s at time like these we turn to wild rumours and speculation, are none come bigger than a Call Of Duty rumour.

With Call of Duty 6 (Modern Warfare 2) due to hit shelves in November of this year, still 6 months away, already the rumours, leaks & speculation has turned to what the backdrop will be that will feature in Call of Duty 7, which will presumably being released around November 2010, the smart money at the moment is that the title will be based in Vietnam, with outside bets being taken on Cuba, the Soviet Union and even Africa, I’m not sure what the odds are on the game taking in a tour of all of them.

Why? you ask, well CoD publisher’s Activision are rumoured to be on the look out for licensing Vietnam war era music for the title. I don’t like FPS, in fact I’m going to go as far saying I hate them, but if there is the chance of playing a ‘Full Metal Jacket’ or ‘Platoon” simulation, I’m going to jump at it.

If you’re thinking it’s far too early to be talking about CoD7 when 6 is still some way from release, then you’d be wrong because Activision only hit the annual release schedule by handing development of the CoD titles to two different development studios, Infinity Ward & Treyarch. Infinity Ward being the developers of the all conquering Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare, and Treyarch being developers of the less well received (but still huge selling) Call of Duty World at War, so it is perfectly plausible that Activision &Treyarch are already getting the bits and pieces together for CoD7, although for now this remains filed under rumour.

Update (13/05/09):

Wherever it’s set, at least now the game has been confirmed, in a chap called David Kim’s online CV. “I am currently on my second title as a senior animator in the games industry with Activision / Treyarch on Call Of Duty 7,” he says. Good lad. Bet Activision are chuffed with you.
