You can’t accuse Sony of not trying to be innovative when it comes to their superb PSN Store. Yes, F5 Thursdays aren’t always packed to the rafters with brand new games, but when they secure the exclusives (PixelJunk, anyone) for the most part they excel. The recent Get in the Game project, where five developers were each given £10,000 to create a new game concept, has seen Sony dipping into the indie scene once again, securing three of the five projects as exclusive PSN titles.
The projects were presented to Phil Gaskell, senior producer at Sony XDev Studios Europe, Graeme Ankers, game director at Liverpool Studio, and Clemens Wangerin, development director at Liverpool Studio. The three of them selected two for definite and a third will hopefully be considered the further development shortly. “It was reassuring to see a commitment of public funding like this from Northwest Vision & Media and it’s clearly helped the teams involved strengthen their skills in many areas,” said Gaskell.
Enda Carey, Head of Games and Digital Content at Northwest Vision & Media, added: “We were delighted with the response to the first Get in the Game project and encouraged by the quality of content that has come through. We hope to be able to extend the scheme this year to offer more companies in the region the opportunity to get involved with game development and we feel this is a clear role for Northwest Vision and Media.” As soon as we get more information on the selected titles we’ll let you know.
