LittleBigPlanet’s Big News

Last year, after a huge amount of hype and promise, LittleBigPlanet arrived on the PS3 to critical acclaim. Since then it’s come on in leaps and bounds, with some of the most creative and imaginative players using the ever evolving tool set to great effect.  It might not be as easy as some originally thought, some of us can’t even get to grips with sticking a bit of string to a block, but it certainly has the depth to give your aesthetic glands a work out.

In a post on the EU Playstation Blog yesterday Media Molecule, LittleBigPlanet’s celebrated developers, proudly announced that the level count created by the massive LBP community had finnaly reached a cool one million.  A great acheivement you’ll no doubt agree.

Each week the boffins in our IT department send us a big spreadsheet full of numbers. Some of the numbers mention stuff like “concurrency” and “peak measures”, which are all very nice although not, for the most part, tremendously exciting. But there is one number in particular that we’ve always kept a close eye on: the number of levels uploaded by the community. And this week, that number became very, very special indeed.

The LittleBigPlanet community has now uploaded over a million levels.

A huge congratulations to Media Molecule and, of course, all the hard work put in by the LBP community.  I’d like to think that somewhere along the way we might have helped out a bit.  As way of thanks Media Molecule also go on to tease a big announcement that will be landing on August the 18th.  Something about that date sound familiar to you?

Well, as someone below has pointed out, it’s the first day of gamescom in Germany. So I expect a lot will happen that week

As a mater of fact we do expect a lot that week.  And I have a feeling it’s more that an interactive bar chart.
