Dragon Age: Awakening Coming In March – Updated

Previously rumoured to exist only in myth and legend, Dragon Age: Origins’ expansion pack, entitled Awakening we’re to believe, will rise from the depths of hearsay and whisperings, and descend upon gaming stores* this March 16th. Featuring a new character and 15 hours of gameplay, you’ll also be able to import your character from the main version.

Kotaku is running with the story and the following blurb from GameSpot’s page of the game:

For centuries, the Grey Wardens-the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands-have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain. You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty of rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain. How you choose to rebuild your order, how you resolve the conflict with “The Architect”, and how you determine the fate of the darkspawn will be but some of the many complex choices that await and shape your journey as you venture to the new land of Amaranthine.

The original rumour about an expansion to Dragon Age: Origins made a point of mentioning that there was no PS3 listing of the new content. We’ll keep an eye out as we’re sure it will make a (no doubt delayed) appearance. The press release has just arrived and the PS3 version is mentioned along with the PC and 360 versions. The content (which has Spectral Dragons and Inferno Golems!) will cost you $40.

*As mentioned below in the comments, Awakening can be purchased at retail stores and as DLC. However, no matter how you purchase the content, you will need Dragon Age: Origins in order to play the expansion pack. More about Awakening can be found here.
