Black Creator Not A Fan Of Cover Systems

We can’t get enough of them, but according to Stuart Black, the designer of sixth-gen offering Black (the game, not himself), modern day shooters are “f**king boring.” Pin-pointing this generation’s apparent fascination with cover systems, Black seemingly isn’t the most patient of soldiers.

“There’s a lot of cover-based shooters out at the moment. But when a guy hunkers down behind something, you’ve just got to sit there and wait for him to pop his head up. Pops up, couple of bullets to his head, pops back down again. And I’m waiting for him to pop back up again? F***ing boring. I can’t be bothered hanging around like that.”

He may have a point. Then again, there are those of us who are absolutely obsessed with that “head pop” action so we can then promptly loosen it from the person in question’s soon to be gory shoulders.

It was recently revealed that Black is now working on a new FPS (without a cover system we’re guessing) over at Codemasters with some other members of the team who created Black (the game, not the … you know what we mean). It’s still not 100% clear if the game in question is Black 2. IP shenanigans suggest that’s a negative captain.
