Xbox LIVE Activity For The Week Of 2/7/11

A gem of information that we rarely take a look at is Xbox Live’s Activity for each week. Granted, it doesn’t always warrant a post because you’ll just see the same games sitting at the top of the list for months at a time, but every once in a while it’s intriguing to take a look and see what games are doing well and what games are missing from the list.

The top 3 don’t surprise me in the slightest but I did raise an eyebrow when I scrolled down to number 6 of the retail list. Grand Theft Auto 4 is coming up on 3 years old and it’s still only one spot away from being in the top 5 most played games on Xbox LIVE. Sure, there’s a million things you can do in the game but three years is a long time and much better titles have hit the market since then, including Rockstar’s most recent offering, Red Dead Redemption.

As far as what games aren’t doing so hot, I can’t help but notice Medal of Honor is missing from the top 20. This game was supposed to compete with Call of Duty and EA even said they thought it was “very close” to being as good as CoD. Looks like the majority of gamers didn’t agree with them. Last, it’s slightly disappointing to see Dead Space 2 nearing the bottom of the list. It’s a fantastic game and has only been out for a few weeks but it doesn’t look like it has the lasting appeal that some of the other games have, despite including a fleshed out multiplayer mode.

You can find the top 20 retail games, Xbox Live Arcade games and Indie games below. The retail list is measured by the number of unique IP’s that played the game during the week of 2/7, while the XBLA and Indie games are measured by the number of full versions that were purchased during the same week.

  1. The Arcade games make for more interesting reading.
To be honest, if you asked me to pull the top list out of ass, I probably could.
Shooters, Sports, and racers. Oh, and Left 4 Dead, which is hardly an unknown.
The only surprising thing there is that a demo made onto the list.
    But with the download games…
Nice to see Stacking get what it deserves, high up on the chart. I love it, but PS+ means we’ll never see how it could have sold on PS3. (Not that I’m complaining at all. :D)

    • I would argue that a very small percentage of PSN members are also Plus members so I’m sure it will still ‘sell’ well.

      • I suppose.
But if it does sell well, people will only say it was because of plus and so on…
The internet is a very cynical place.
Does anybody know the actual percentage of plus accounts versus psn accounts?

      • its only fee for one moth.

      • free for one month even lol.

  2. I’m surprised that uno is still selling. It is bundled with the arcade models and has been out years. Seriously who doesn’t have this game already.

  3. Is love to see that retail list for the ps3 next to the xbox one. Wonder how Much difference there’d be, if any. It also saddens me to see 3 different cod games in the top 10. Plus, since when has FIFA been known as FIFA soccer?

    • It’s an American list ;-)

I too would love to see a PS3 list. I wonder how well older online games like Warhawk would fair?

  4. Retail list is really predictable.

Castle crashers number 13 is good to see.

  5. Is this listing just for the US? If it is, it explains alot! Gun totting sports nuts! :)

  6. The Impossible Game … just the demo gave me and my friends hours of entertainment!
