Pokémon Black/White Sells over 1 million in 1 day

Nintendo has announced that the combined day one sales of Pokémon Black and White in the US reached 1.08 million units. The games have already breezed past two million in Japan, as well as storming the UK Chart this week.

Charlie Scibetta, Corporate Communications Director at Nintendo of America, had the following to say:

“These sales numbers illustrate the continued strength of the Nintendo DS family of systems. Already established as the nation’s best-selling video game platform of all time, the installed base of more than 47 million makes it the ideal hand-held for developers to reach a huge gaming-focused target audience.”

Seems there is still a lot of Poké-love in the world.

  1. No surprise there. Only 4 hours with Black and it’s pretty awesome. This is what Diamond and Pearl should of been.

  2. Honestly didnt realise Pkemon was even this huge.
I remember it being really popular about a decade or so ago but I thought that it went out at the same time as the Nokia 3210…I was most definitely wrong, those sales figures are huuuggeee!!!

  3. I just started playing the old Pokemon games again on a GBA emulator on my android phone. I forgot just how great Pokemon really is

  4. Not much of a surprise this, Pokèmon sells, which makes you wonder how long they’ll continue pouring out these games using the exact same formula… Not that it bothers me personally, I’ll probably pick this up sometime during the year, love myself a good Pokèmon-journey!

    • Not the exact same formula, they tweak it a little each time ;-)

Story seems better this time, a bit more serious too. The completely new setting will be interesting as well, seems to be quite different than the new regions normally are.

  5. Not played a Pokemon game since Red on my original Gameboy and even then I was probably too old for it. I did collect them all though!

I’m still amazed at how well it continues to sell year after year. There must be a zillion types of Pokemon by now.

    • I was a Blue man. Followed by Silver. But stopped after Silver. Tempted to get back into it but duhhno bout the investment on a DS. More a PS3 guy these days.

      • Same. I’m a PS3 guy. Not played Pokemon over a decade and I was probably 9 back then.
Tempted to get 3DS and the Pokemon games over iPad 2.

    • You can never be too old for a fun RPG.

  6. Ohh, I’m so playing these in the summer. They are perfect for when you just want to relax outside for a bit. Also for when you don’t quite want to dive right into a massive PS3 game.

Haven’t played SoulSilver yet either, might get onto that too. I’m not suprised they’ve sold well either. They always do, same formula – but it seems to work. People would be surprised how deep the combat and stats are though!

    • True, the underlying game-mechanics are some of the very finest to be found in any RPG, despite the franchise’s somewhat childish storyline and character-design. The balance between user-friendlyness and hardcoreness (…?) is really brillaint in these games.

    • Are you going to get both?

      • I’m not no, I’ll get Black when I get round to it. I was including SoulSilver in that opening paragraph, sorry ’bout the confusion ;o

      • Ahh, that makes sense :)

  7. Played it and loving it, simple back to what made Pokemon good
