If you were to punch www.modernwarfare3.com into your address bar, what would you expect to find? Chances are the URL would drop you into the official website for Activision’s upcoming blockbuster shooter, or at least bring you to the CoD franchise online hub. Well you would be wrong, in fact the mentioned address links directly to EA’s official homepage for eagerly anticipated rival, Battlefield 3.
EA have been known to take cracks at Call of Duty in the past, especially where Battlefield is concerned, however this isn’t a hoax conjured up by the global gaming publisher as Google caches prove. The domain was actually snapped up by an unknown user, who used it to vent their anger at the Call of Duty series with outbursts such as:
Modern Warfare is crap. On November 8, 2011, the most over-hyped first-person action series of all-time returns with the copy and paste sequel to the lackluster Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Check out the E3 2011 gameplay demo featuring the Black Tuesday level for a look at the epic fail of the campaign. Pre-Order Call of Duty MW3 Today for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC to secure exclusive bonuses only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.
Sure, the whole fiasco has kicked up a few giggles, but there is still a killer question that remains: why didn’t Activision acquire the rights for the “modernwarfare3” domain name? Each year we reel in dozens of stories regarding publishers and the stockpile of domains they haul in to make sure they have all bases covered when it comes to promoting a product via the web.

Battlefield fanboys. So determined to prove they’re superior that they have to do this.
Bilbo_bobbins
Each to their own I guess
kjkg
Don’t really get how you think this is a guy trying to prove he is superior. He bought a website name and linked it to here. It’s a joke from a guy that doesn’t like COD. No hidden meaning, just a funny joke.

I love my consoles don’t get me wrong, but the higher volumes of core users only drop the level of the lowest common denominator and heighten the level of elitism…..the irony of which is that I’m aware this is essentially an elitist statement!
Take me back to the days when the average person you encountered online was well mannered, rather than having to scour the internet for areas and communities that you enjoy.
It’s simply impossible for humans as a whole to simply like what we like and leave it at that, why do we need to insist that others are wrong, or enforce our ill-conceived superiority?
Sigh, my apologies for the rant. Anonymity and freedom of speech are both the best and worse things to come from the internet, it’s starting to sway the way of the negatives outweighing the positives though with every man and his dog having very un-anonymous social media pages.
Apologies for the rant!

10/10 post right there. I’m all for different opinions but when people with differing opinions think they’re above one another, that’s what does my head in.

Brilliant post DJ Judas.

Well said.

Not a fanboy of either product (although i do lean more on the battlefield side if any), but that is actually pretty funny.
As mentioned above though, strange that Activision didn’t snap that domain up months & months ago.
hazelam
that’s the one thing i wondered about this, why didn’t activision have that domain reserved months ago?
i bet they’ll be looking to lock up modernwarfare4.
GamingBlueBoy
Yeah. Actually, I think that I might try to take mw4.
Bilbo_bobbins
this is actually funny, amazes me these big companies don’t snap them up long before just in case.
kjkg
This did make me chuckle.

It’s all a bit much for me. Unless you’re somehow involved in the creation of the game, then I don’t know why you should be ranting and raving on either side, just buy the one you like, and accept that some people disagree with you. Moreover, the term “epic fail” is becoming rather tired with over-use.
kjkg
It’s not so much the words epic fail, but more epic that is over used. It’s losing all meaning and proportion. (I’m also guilty of using it but really kick my self when I do, hate using the “in lingo” LOL, GTFO, OMG, TOWIE.)
hazelam
in this case i think not getting that domain registered months ago is a big failure on activision’s part.
Kevatron400
Sure, I agree that it is a failure on Activision’s part in not securing the domain itself, it was the words themselves that irked me.
KeRaSh
You mad bro? *trollface* ;)
dude90
I laughed when I entered it into my browser.

“only available online for Modern Warfare 3 fanboys who don’t know that Battlefield 3 is the better game.”
Nope. No superiority there at all. Also, hilarious joke.
SpikeyMikey23
I think thats taking it it a bit too far, Get over it son, if you dont like it, dont buy it. be pleased that these people arent going to be noob toobing you in the face in BF3. I’d love to know his PSN, I’d constantly use the grenade launcher on him just to piss him off!
MadJunkBoy
