OPM Claim Timesplitters 4 Announcement Soon

If you take any stock in the rumour sections of print magazines, rejoice in the rather authoritative news that, apparently an announcement for Timesplitters 4 is due soon.

[drop2]That’s according to the Official PlayStation Magazine, which states that “gun-wielding monkeys are finally making a comeback” and that “a fourth Timesplitters title is to be announced soon” in its latest issue.

Crytek do have a UK division which would be most suited to such a project, although it’s unlikely to fall under this rumour, which stated that Crytek’s next would be a ‘new’ IP. Not that the devs aren’t aware of the game, of course.

And, it’s worth mentioning that the last time anyone really mentioned Timesplitters 4 it was being pitched at next gen, at least in terms of an Xbox version, which was rumoured to be shown privately at E3 this year…

Chances are this is just the magazine taking a punt, although we’d love to be proved wrong. A level editor on current consoles could be amazing.

  1. Oh, goody.
Would love it to prove true.
A shooter that’s less serious than the big hitters, but not blatantly immature…
Yup, I’d love it to be true.

  2. Jesus thats good to hear…..

  3. I hope they do bring it back, to keep that kind of style, the ideas and creativity, and the amount of fun u could have when it’s all not so serious…. Sigh, i nearly made a tiny wee seeing that headline

  4. I played Timesplitters for the first time last weekend and it was really funny and great to play :)

  5. Die hard Timesplitters fan. Spent plenty of weekends unlocking every character in TS2/FP. Frustrating at times but in the end totally worth it.

  6. While the thought of a new TimeSplitters game is exciting, I’m still sceptical for some reason. I don’t think it’s gonna be the game we’re expecting. I hate to say it, but I think they’re just going to make a bog-standard FPS with story focused on time travel and then stick the TimeSplitters name on it. I hope I’m wrong though. I really, really do.

    • I couldn’t agree more. Timesplitters was amazing at a time when there wasn’t really much competition. They’d have to do something pretty special for it to be anything other than average, and I just can’t see it happening. Let sleeping dogs lie.

      • Like Duke Nukem which was amazing when first released but now it just doesn’t do anything. There’s so many good FPS’s out now that your game has to be amazing to get noticed by the casuals.

  7. Please, please , please be true. I absolutely loved TS2 and would love to return to the good ol days.

  8. I REALLY hope that’s true.

  9. I played this back when I was a kid as a total beginner at around 9. One of the first games I played I suppose. Always either played as the fishbowl robot guy or the monkey due to the height difference in an attempt to give me an edge.. I never did very well. Would be massively interested in a fourth. I always found it so much fun..

  10. Would love this to be true but I’m sure it’s not.
