Breaking news from the frontline! Yesterday we reported the news that Grand Theft Auto was being blamed for the London riots.
These are bad people who did this. Kids out of control. When I was young it was all Pac-man and board games. Now they’re playing Grand Theft Auto and want to live it for themselves.
The quote was attributed to a police officer in Tottenham and the Evening Standard ran the headline you can see above. Later editions of the paper did not have the same headline, thanks in part to our friends over on MCV.
Last night a Sony distribution centre was set on fire, which we reported here. The Evening Standard reported the news in their business section with a quote from Sony, ‘There will likely be some impact on deliveries’. The paper then commented,
This was seen as a major understatement by industry sources who pointed out that retailers tend to hold relatively little stock due to the fast-turnaround nature of DVDs and games, which sell very quickly when they become hits. “These are products that really do not stay on the shelves for long,” said one senior industry source.
