Tweak It: Forza 3

Last week we looked at Gran Turismo 5. I have to admit that I was a little concerned that flame wars might break out in the comments as they often do whenever anyone dares to suggest GT5 might not be perfect. It is very much to our community’s credit that they did not and it was GT5’s general lack of community features and support that kept cropping up in your tweaks:

  • For a game that is as much about owning the cars as it is racing them, something that is so obviously missing when pointed out is “the ability to set up clans or car clubs”. How great would it be to have the equivalent of real life owner’s clubs such as in the game. Polyphony Digital could even give the real owner’s clubs a virtual presence in GT5. Opportunities for cross-promotion would surely make it worthwhile. ~ Baxteros
  • The game-changing Autolog the we first saw in Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit has lead to many recent driving games implementing a similar system for comparing lap times, etc., with your friends.  You would like to see something similar added to GT5. ~ DR-DAVROS, stanley1664
  • You all clearly share my disdain for the standard cars. Where are the promised standard-to-premium upgrades we were told we could expect? ~ Greek-BBQ, Fresh191, Danlord, Lymmusic, cc_star, AJ
  • Finishing this list before I get too carried away listing all your great tweaks another glaring omission: having included the Top Gear Test Track why the Hell did they leave out a standing start and the reasonably priced cars! (That the track is in the forthcoming Forza 4, which also includes the Kia Cee’d to race around it, probably sadly means that GT5’s missed opportunity cannot now be taken.) ~ DR-DAVROS, Danlord, rossthebassist, cc_star

This week I would like you to turn your tweak-generating minds upon GT5’s main competitior for your driving attentions, albeit on the other console, Turn 10’s Forza Motorsport 3. Forza Motorsport 4 is due out in mid-October and will allow you to import some of your cars and credits from Forza 3, so there is still plenty of reason to be playing Forza 3 other than its Tag mode.

I normally give you a couple of tweaks to start things off but the main issue I had playing Forza 3 was simply a feeling that I do not know how to address. It is that I just did not find the Season Play single-player to be compelling enough. I just kind of let it fall by the wayside as it felt too much of a grind, more so than GT5’s single-player in my opinion, and I simply cannot put my finger on why that is the case.

Many of you have also played both Forza 3 and GT5 so it will be interesting to hear how you think they compare and whether you would like as many of GT5’s features to migrate to the Forza series as you wanted the reverse last week.

You must be able to do better than me in coming up with how you would tweak Forza 3, so have at it…



  1. They need to refine the Season Play, it’s fun but unless you come back now and then, it’s hard to play a lot of. I can’t sit down and just play that.

    Tag mode and other modes need to be turned into proper online modes, with lots of options rather than the limited ones we have.

    • Less Mariokart, more GT5…

      Forza is a game that does not know what it wants to be. It’s nowhere in the same league as Gran Turismo with regards to a realistic racer, and it’s a poor arcade racer too..

      • Why are you replying to my comment? If you’re trying to say that Tag makes Forza more like Mario Kart, then that’s good. Because Mario Kart is fun, and so is tag.

      • i do agree with you that forza seems like it has a split personalty. it seems like at every opportunity turn 10 get they make out its a hardcore Sim but at the same time making more and more design choices that would be far better suited to a arcade game.

      • @david24 I think that is the beauty of Forza though. It caters to both more hardcore sim fans and to people who just want to have some fun, be it designing or playing tag. That’s the problem with some other racing sims. They are very one sided. T10 have taken a smart approach and made a game that has something for everyone. I love sim racers myself and have loads spread across my PC, Xbox and PS3. I’d say by far Forza has given me the most amount of pleasure to play.

    • I think It would be good if they tweaked the season play as well. It would also be nice if they added in more interaction with the game like give it a story of some kind sort of like Toca race driver did so you talk to the other drivers and if you bash them about a lot they will get pissed off and some cinematics would be nice. The game itself is brilliant It has a wide audience as it has options that you can enable/ disable depending on what you like such as simulator based or if your more of an arcade racer Forza allows you to set the difficulty assists to what you want which In MY opinion makes it one of the best racing games to date. They could also add in more options to change for online game modes.

  2. Proper wheel support. It doesn’t work with my driving force gt and the Microsoft wheel is rubbish, and the Fanetic wheel is way too expensive for me.

  3. it always annoyed me when you completed a race and you got a really good car, I prefer to save money up and buy a car. I was saving up for a Ford mustang and when i finally had the money I won it in the race.

  4. A few more cars and proper wheel support.

    That’s all. Besides having more options with regards to review code, the only reasons I could see myself picking up a 360 again are Forza 4 and maybe Gears 3.

  5. Let me play it on PS3. That is all.

    I enjoyed 3 so much, I, like nemesis, may well pick up another 360 just for this game. It really is that good.

    • Indeed! 3 was just so brilliant, a huge step up from Forza 2, which I didn’t get along with too well. Much better game than GT5, I have to say.

      • I’d agree with both points there. I know there’s integration with Kinect that I’m interested to see but not even remotely interested to utilise.
        I felt at times that I should love GT5 just because I’d pined for it so long but no, after all’s said and done, it was a huge let-down for me but it won’t stop me looking forward to the next one just as much.

        A tweak I might mention is changeable weather and daylight that truly affects the driving.

    • Meh, GT5 is a million times better for real petrolheads. If arcade racers are more your cup of tea, then there are plenty of better arcade racers…

      • Petrolheads? I thought we were talking about video-games? As far as games are concerned, I prefer Forza to GT which is what I regard to be its closest rival.

        As far being a petrolhead is concerned, there’s a whole wide world out there, a long way away from the internet.

        I claim to be neither petrolhead, nor videogame expert, but I know what I enjoy and somewhat more importantly, what I can afford.

        the only half decent game simbin ever made is gt legends and that is really starting to show its age. and there nfs shift and shift 2 were crap. codies have only made f1 which was good but not in the same league as games like rfactor, gt5 or lfs.

    • Oh and wheel support. The only good one is the fanatec and that’s £100 quid more for xbox support.

    • Well except the toy-car graphics but surely that’s solely hardware limitations so it’s nothing to blame.

      • Sorry? I don’t get that. Some of the cars look beautiful. In fact, if we’re talking about toy car graphics, the vast majority, i.e. the standard cars, in GT5 look like toy cars.

      • i think by “toy car graphics” he doesn’t mean that the cars look bad, just that the cars look quite gamey (if that makes sense) and not as realistic as the premiums in gt5. and gt5s standards look in no way like toy cars. average to bad, yes. but not like toy cars

    • Physics are what a 12yr old kid would expect a car to do, rather than what a car ACTUALLY does…

      Anyone that thinks Forza is even close to real world needs to ask daddy if they can drive his car on a private road…

  9. Wheel support. Other than that, can’t fault it.

  10. I would like to see a far more racing series in it. The game has NASCAR’s and Touring cars, yet there are no races you can properly use them in. It would also be nice to see some proper endurance races. Not just 17 laps of Le Man, for example, like it is now. I want 12 or 24 hour races. The ability to actually make custom races would be nice as well. I want the same customisation options you get online to be offline.

    The biggest tweak for me would be having a day and night cycle along with dynamic weather. For endurance racing these would be fantastic.

    Otherwise I can’t really flaw Forza 3. I love it. Spent over a week of play time in the game. I’d go as far to say it’s probably the best racing game I have ever played.
