Devil May Cry Gets Gamescom Trailer

A new trailer for DmC has been released. To be honest I’m wary about commenting further, because every trailer so far hasn’t gone down particularly well despite me thinking they looked pretty good.

Anyway, enjoy (or not!).

  1. Oh come on! That is what they are using as the logo!? That is crap. Must not go into a rage. The trailer is pretty bad. It lacks the awesomeness that the previous DMCs trailers had.( i mean DMC1,2,3 and 4 not that POS trailer before this one)

I am still annoyed that they turned Dante, one of the coolest video game characters into a emo person who smokes. He doesn’t smoke. The creator said that he didn’t make Dante smoke as he thought is wasn’t needed to make him cool. If that was a devil trigger i saw in the trailer. I will go apecrap as they are screwing up the contiunity as he doesn’t gain that abilty untill DMC 3. My hopes for this dies every time i see a new trailer for it. >:(

    • You mention about the devil trigger, but bear in mind that this is a reboot of the series, not a straight remake/remastering (as you rightly mentioned with his new ‘look’), so they aren’t going to be doing things the same way around.

It isn’t going to be ‘Devil May Cry HD’, it is going to be ‘DMC’, so you need to expect that things will be different & that they will want to include game mechanics that they developed through the series lifecycle.

If you are lucky though, the rumours of a HD remaster of the first few games will be true & you won’t need to bother with this one! :)

Personally, i’ll wait for some more informaton/reviews before i cast judgement, as it could actually turn out to be good (character changes aside).

      • Actually it was confirmed as a prequel today. Not a reboot.
Also new Dante got another appearance change (less ugly face and bearing a more stylish look) he looks a tad bit better now, still he could do with another facelift…. or ten.

        Offical description:
Detailing Dante’s early years and set against a contemporary backdrop, DmC Devil May Cry will retain the stylish action, fluid combat and selfassured protagonist that have defined the series but inject a more brutal and visceral edge. The Dante of DmC is a young man discovering and coming to terms with what it means to be the child of a demon and an angel. This split personality has a major impact on gameplay with Dante being able to call upon angel and demon abilities at will, transforming his Rebellion sword on the fly to dramatically affect both combat and movement.

      • I am sure that this was initially announced as a reboot as they wanted to go in a new direction with the series (feeling that DMC4 fell a bit ‘flat’), but still keeping Dante.

I am not saying you are wrong, (as you aren’t as i have just read something similar), but it doesn’t make a great deal of sense to me.

If it is indeed a prequel now, then it actually makes even less sense for Dante to have abilities that he picked up in the 2nd & 3rd games – What are they gonna do, have him lose some powers at the end of the game so that it can seep into the first game?

  2. this is looking really good. can’t wait to see pure gameplay.

  3. This looks really good to me. I haven’t played a lot of the other DMC games so I feel like this would be a good place to jump in. Although I was annoyed that they changed Dante’s appearance, it looks like regular Dante will be making an appearance in this game too so I’m happy.

I really enjoyed Enslaved, so I just hope they bring the same quality to this.

    • “it looks like regular Dante will be making an appearance in this game too so I’m happy”

Not really too sure how that would work – They would both be Dante (i.e. the same character), so would need to be some kind of parallel dimension or something for that to happen i guess? Couldn’t be anything more than just a nod to the old character model surely?

I would personally prefer if they just made a decision. If you are changing him, change him & bear the consequences. If you are having second thoughts, change him back (which i would probably prefer IMO).

Again though, i’ll reserve judgement until more information is out there on how it plays.

  4. It looks.. sunny. Devil May Cry is not sunny, if you had to use one word to describe previous games, ‘sunny’ would not be the one you choose.

Doesn’t look right, take it away.

    • Now I’ve got Boney M in my head… Cheers!

      • Sunny, yesterday my life was filled with rain.
Sunny, Emo Dante’s such a shame
The dark days are gone, and the bright days are here,
Devil may cry looks full of cheer
Sunny is a pile of poo, I hate you.

  5. To me, as long as they nail the gameplay, i couldn’t really care less what Dante or anyone else looks like. Yes, i will of course miss the ‘cool’ Dante of old, but as long as i can swoop people into the air with a sword & finish them off with Ebony & Ivory (or whatever he may be using now), that’ll be a good start!

  6. He can stay in the air for far too long! In fact if it wasn’t for kicking people he wouldn’t need any legs.

  7. That is some insane combos I loved Devil May Cry and I love Dante, the first 3 was a blast and never played the 4th =( (Don’t know why I didn’t)
But I am liking the look of this and would be willing to put this in “to Buy” list. It looks fun.

  8. I didn’t want to get angry about it but I can’t help it. If this was a completely stand-alone game that didn’t carry the Devil May Cry brand I could see this being good. However, as it stands all I can see is it being a raping of an excellent series of games with an unnecessary reboot muddying the cannon for no reason.

On a related note am I right in thinking there was rumours of a Capcom made DMC5 and a HD remake of the original trilogy?

  9. Looks good, quite a different visual tone to the previous games.

  10. I kept waiting for Ezio to appear.
