Skyrim Beaten In Just Over 2 Hours

Skyrim QA Tester, Sam Bernstein, has managed to complete Skyrim’s main quest line in 2 hours 16 minutes and 10 seconds.

The Speedrun Competition is a bit of a tradition over at Bethesda, where a member of the QA team goes up against a member of the development team. The rules state that the competitors are not allowed to use any cheats, but the competitors could choose any path they wished to complete the main story quest.

The final times of the speedrun then were:

Sam Bernstein – 2 Hours 16 Minutes 10 Seconds

Jeff Browne      – 2 Hours 16 Minutes 30 Seconds

Just a 20 second gap seperated the two, with both choosing different paths. Now, don’t expect that you’ll be able to do the same as these guys have spent the last couple of years on Skyrim and so know it very well. I’ll probably be spending my first 2 hours trying to climb a mountain.

  1. Anyone have a clue how fast the speedruns were for Oblivion?

    • I have heard the quickest one is 7 minutes due to the paintbrush trick

      • I never heard about the paintbrush trick. =P

    • Nevermind, the source states the following:
“Update: Folks are asking how the Skyrim speedrun stacks up to previous competitions. The Skyrim speedrun took just over an hour more than both Oblivion and Fallout 3.”

      • Yeah, IGN said that they were just over an hour.

      • :O
How is it possible to do Oblivion in an hour?!!
        That’s scary!

      • No, not an hour, an hour more (i.e., an extra hour).

      • Yep, but seeing as Skyrim took just over an hour more than Oblivion/F3 at 2hrs16, that means those two were done in around an hour.

      • i read that and my jaw dropped. same fro fallout. i don’t know if its even possible to get to the places you need to that fast

  2. I would be annoyed to lose by 20 seconds – nice idea/competition though!

    • I can hardly believe it, a game this big and the difference was so small. Mental.

  3. Wow, what amazes me even more is the fact that the difference between the two times is so small. I’d love to see a video comparison of the two speed runs.

    • Yeh that was the more surprising thing. The times weren’t. Oblivion can be done in an hour without glitches I’m sure.

Must suck to be that close though!!

  4. :O I’ll probably be getting my arse handed to me by a dragon for the first two hours and then spend the next 10 hours exploring. I hope the main quest is longer then oblivion and doesn’t mainly consist of go here, fetch item/person return as it seemed to be in Oblivion but it’s been a while since i have played the Main quest.

  5. I will be spend more time than that creating my character.

    • lol, you and me both mate :D

    • Ha, good point. What you choosing for your first character? Khajiit all the way for me. Played Oblivion through three times, every time a Khajiit.

      • Going to take me a week and the official guide to Um and Ar over that game deciding choice, actually I may start thinking about it now.

  6. This hasn’t worried me in the slightest, just makes me want to play it even more infact.

  7. Maybe flying through it at a million miles an hour will be the only way to get through it before it crashes.

    • Let’s hope the engine is much more stable this time hey?

    • This raises a good point – Oblivion and Fallout3 only crashed for me with 30+ hours on the game save.
Do developers and game testers play the way (most of us I assume) play or is it mainly just speed run game testing?

      • That is a fair point, I can’t say I recall when Oblivion or Fallout 3 first crashed for me, but you would hope the QA department of a software house producing big sprawling RPGs would plough some hours into them to thoroughly test the user experience. Maybe more inexcusable is that after the plethora of compaints, there was never any effort to patch out the crashing issues.

Despite the potential problems though, I’m certain I’ll be getting it. What a hypocrite I am.

      • Fallout 3 crashed a million times for me from the start, Oblivion didn’t crash once that I remember. I’ve heard others saying Fallout 3 was stable for them, It seems to be random luck of the draw really..

  8. 2 hours! And they charge RRP £50 for this !?!?!
Ha ha just winding you all up.
I have never been more excited for a game before this….however Arkham City is starting to catch up…..

  9. Wow that’s fast. If I get it I will never complete it that fast or anywhere near that time. With Demon Souls the first playtrhough took me roughly 37hours and fastest speed run on that is 51mins.

  10. How can you complete a game soo fast?!?!?
