S.T.A.L.K.E.R Dev Allegedly Shut Down

Ukrainian news site UkraNews is reporting that GSC Game World, the developer behind popular post-nuclear shooter S.T.A.L.K.E.R is in the process of closing its doors.

The studio, composed of 40-50 employees, has yet to release an official statement though numerous sources are suggesting the reason for GSC’s closure is due personal issues surrounding GSC owner, Sergei Grigorovich. Some claim that Grigorovich is dissatisfied with S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 development, any allegation being that Ukranian law enforcement is trying to impede the developer’s progress.

Expect a response from GSC in the coming days. Currently the studio is offering no comment on the situation, conflicting messages from the company’s official Twitter account adding only more confusion.

  1. without a shadow of a doubt THE worst gaming related news of the year.
Stalker is one of the best FPS/RPG series ever made and one of the last emergent story games made not to mention their great work on the cossack series, its a black day for gaming.

    • Another croc at TSA?

      DIIIIIEE!

    • Odd to say this, my mother loved Cossaks. It was really good to be fair. I never played stalker though, if it’s the same quality then that would be good too. Sad another studio is closing :(

  2. Indeed, democroc, indeed.
I’ve been in a really sad mood today because of this, I *love* Stalker with all my heart and the cossacks games were great. Depressing news :(

  3. Ah, that’s a shame. I quite enjoyed STALKER and will never forget entering the reactor. One of the most haunting moments in video gaming (for me).

  4. Cannot believe it. Was always hoping for a Stlaker installment on consoles. Haven’t played up “Call Of Pripyat” for ages.
