PlatinumGames Defend Metal Gear Rising

Atsushi Inaba , executive director and producer at Platinum Games, has been defending their upcoming game, Metal Gear Rising.

He is obviously aware that the hack and slash, arcade action gameplay may not be to everyone’s tastes as he has tweeted the following:

“Let me begin.

It seems there are some who wish to imply PlatinumGames was able to achieve what Kojima Productions could not — interviewers among them.

This notion is spurious. Clearly, we have not yet produced any results in the world of Metal Gear.

The artists at Kojima Productions gave their blood, sweat and tears to bring the Metal Gear Saga to life.

The gap is immense. Mr. Kojima tossed his chips on our table, believing we could handle the task. In other words, he took a gamble.

Many seem to think the change from MGSR to MGR altered everything about the game, but this is simply not true.

MGSR’s concept excited us. We have love and respect for it, as we do the character of Raiden and the idea of freely cutting anything apart.

I know reaction to the new trailer is mixed. Yet I also believe our love and respect shines through.

It is my hope that you catch a glimpse of the future in the footage.

In order to achieve that evolution, that future, we at PlatinumGames will continue to fight, shedding our own blood, sweat and tears.

That is all.”

  1. The only thing that bothered me in the new trailer is that enemies take more than on slash through their body to die. In MGSR trailer, they took one slash and then they died (because normal people do that), but in the new MGR trailer, they appear to have to take multiple slashes through the body to die, much more akin to your usual slash’em up.

    • I suppose it’s possible that the first few enemies you encounter could die with one slash, but as the game progresses, enemies get harder/wear better armour & therefore take more hits?

  2. Meta Gear Solid. Best gaming series ever.

  3. Haven’t enjoyed anything made by Platinum Games so my hopes for this are pretty much non-existent. Nevertheless, anything MGS related interests me so I’ll keep my eye on it and hope for MGS5.

    • Really?! Madworld, Bayonetta, Vanquish. Granted they are all of a similar genre but I’m surprised you didn’t enjoy any of those.

  4. Fingers crossed with Platinum Games at the helm ‘Rising’ will feel like an actual game rather than another novel ;)
