Developer Multiverse Closes Down

Multiverse has today announced it is closing down and ceasing all operations. On the Multiverse site the company has released a statement.

“Although thousands of developers showed interest in the Multiverse Platform, Multiverse wasn’t able to achieve a profitable business model. As a result, Multiverse ceased operations in December 2011 due to lack of funding. “

Multiverse created the Multiverse Platform, allowing MMO devs to create games cheaply and so opening the doors for smaller development teams to work on their own projects.

In 2009 the platform began to support Flash games. Both McDonald’s and Coca Cola used  Multiverse to create promotional Flash Games for the Avatar movie.

Multiverse had also been in talks with 20th Century Fox Licensing and Merchandising to create a Buffy The Vampire Slayer MMO. The Multiverse Platform will still be maintained by the community that built up around it through SourceForge.

We would like to extend our condolences to all staff affected and hope they find new jobs soon.
