Square Enix Releases Sleeping Dogs Trailer (Update)

Square Enix has confirmed Sleeping Dogs existence with the release of an amazing and violent live action trailer. This is True Crime: Hong Kong re-branded, which was cancelled by Activision and picked up by Square Enix. Activision still hold the rights to the True Crime franchise, so the game had to be re-branded, Sleeping Dogs now being the title.

Lee Singleton, GM of Square Enix London Studios, commented on the gameplay style.

Square Enix London Studios, a part of the Square Enix Group announces Sleeping Dogs, a gritty open-world cop drama set in the vibrant city of Hong Kong. Developed by United Front Games in collaboration with Square Enix London Studios, Sleeping Dogs will be available in the second half of 2012.

From the moment you pick up the controller and experience the blend of driving, close combat and shooting you know you’re playing something fresh and a bit special.  Sleeping Dogs has one of the best melee combat systems out there – it’s super brutal with devastating takedown moves, and when added to UFG’s proven heritage in driving games, a first class story and the vibrant backdrop of the Hong Kong underworld we get a fiery recipe with fun written all over it.”

Sleeping Dogs will release on PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.

  1. Not generally a fan of live action trailers for games but that was superb. If the combat turns out like anything in that video then this could be really good.

  2. Whoa brutally good ^^
Keeping my eye on this one.
    Cheers Aran

  3. That was a great live action trailer! Will definitely follow this and await more details.

  4. Same as Mickey, not generally a fan of live-action trailers either but that was awesome!

  5. when’s this movie out then?

yeah i know, that was a joke.

but seriously, when i watch a trailer for a game, i like to, you know, see the game.
    still, damn cool video.
it just remains to be seen if even half what that guy did is even possible in the game.

  6. That’s a nice surprise, i enjoyed the previous True Crime games and the third one was looking quite good before Activision dropped it.

  7. Like mentioned above never keen on when gameplay isn’t shown, but that was absolutely awesome. Really properly amazing.

  8. They really should have thought of a different name. It sounds a little boring for what sounds like an exciting game. Although this does open a window for extra sales from parents who think they have just picked up Nintendos latest hit “Sleeping Nintendogs” for their little angels.

  9. Someone needs to bang their heads together

  10. Yes, yes, yes!!! Love True Crime.

I mean Sleeping Dogs. Not actual sleeping dogs mind you, but the game. Well, sleeping dogs are ok i guess, they just aren’t very active. Which is nmot what i want from a video game.

I guess what i am getting at is i want this game. Now.

(yes, even without seeing any gameplay footage screenshots, or even a review!)
