Game BAFTA Nominees Announced

This morning, BAFTA announced the nominees list for this year’s prestigious awards. Although some of their categories can seem a bit peculiar to those of us used to games only being commended in very narrow terms, it’s very interesting to see how they fill each category. It would be fascinating to listen in on the judging panel’s discussions of the nominees. How do they judge whether L.A. Noire was more innovative than Bastion, for example?

It’s a huge list but there is quite a nice mix, although the heavy-hitters obviously receive multiple nominations. Batman: Arkham City and L.A. Noire both lead the nominations with eight each.

  1. Where is Stacking?

    • Last i checked, it was on the store… :)

      • ;) Yep, and unfortunately that’s where it’s staying for award ceremonies.

      • I can’t really comment as i haven’t played it, but i know a few friends that have a lot of love for it.

Sadly, there are a few factors working against it in the fact that it was released early in the year (thus probably forgotten about in the noms) & seems to be somewhat of a marmite product where some love it, but others just don’t get on with it.

  2. The Nightjar is unlike anything I’ve ever played. Very impressive and wholly unnerving.

  3. Skyrim for me (yes I know it’s only now that it’s fully playable, although I had no major problems on the PS3 before the patch) as it’s got such atmosphere and the music is excellent. However, Portal 2 was great and LBP2 deserves stuff for its innovation etc., although that could be diminished by the ground-breaking work done by LBP1…

  4. Rayman Origins for Artistic Achievement should be the hands down winner, but that’s not how these things work!
