Shadowrun Returns Kickstarter Project Funded In 28 Hrs

Kickstarter projects are all the rage at the moment after Double Fine’s mega successful attempt to crowdsource funding for their next game.

Developer Harebrained Schemes’ thought they could tap into the nostalgia of gamers by promising a sequel to cyberpunk action RPG Shadowrun, released in 1993 for the SNES. You may also remember that an adapatation of Shadowrun appeared as an online-only first person shooter back in 2007 on Xbox 360 and PC, but the series originally started as a pen and paper RPG.

Their plan worked, surprisingly well, as the game has reached the funding target of $400,000 in just 28 hours. At the time of writing, the project has amassed $526,163 from a whopping 11,769 backers.

On their Kickstarter page, the devs thanked the “incredible” response from everyone involved in funding the title:

“From the bottom of our hearts, we’d like to say THANK YOU to everyone who has backed us so far.

“If we weren’t working our butts off on our new game, we’d be dancing around the Closet (our tiny office) with tears of joy streaming down our faces. Instead, the team is heads-down at their computers, sniffling loudly and wiping their eyes with their shirt-sleeves.”

So there you have it, Shadowrun Returns will eventually be arriving on PC and tablets. The project has also gone well past its target of $425,000 for a Mac version and a possible Linux version is in the works as well.
