Starbreeze, most recently known for EA’s mediocre Syndicate FPS, is buying Overkill Software. The deal is still pending shareholder approval but the logo image on Overkill Software’s website already features a little Starbreeze influence so we assume that it’s just a formality.
Both studios are based in Stockholm, Sweden and Starbreeze recently laid off 25 staff members following the completion of Syndicate. They’re currently working on a freemium game called “Cold Mercury” but they will continue to make games in the traditional retail model too.
I couldn’t find any information as to what Overkill has been working on, other than supporting Payday: The Heist, their fairly successful PSN shooter from last year.
