Tomb Raider Delayed To Next Year

Crystal Dynamics‘ reboot of Tomb Raider has been delayed until 2013.

As reported on their official blog, studio head Darrell Gallagher says the developers need “additional development time.”

“Our priority now is to make sure we fully deliver the very highest quality game. In order to do this, we have decided to move the game’s release date by a few months,” he said.

“We believe this is the right choice and I guarantee it will be worth the wait,” he added. “The game is looking amazing and we can’t wait to show it to everyone at E3 in a few weeks.”

Presumably Lara Croft was a wee bit nervous about this year’s big hitters.

  1. This is great news for me – I have a 10 week old baby at home so I’ve hardly had chance to play any games for the last few months. Hopefully by the time Tomb Raider comes out I will have cleared some of my backlog :)

    • I’ve had three of the little blights….well the Mrs has, I just well you know, did my bit! Anyway you soon learn to game and look after the kids and before you know it they’re sitting next to you in a split screen game of Warhawk….(I shall now wipe a tear from my eyes with thoughts of how they grow up so quickly :)

    • my daughter is 2 in August, my backlog just increases, as yours will, unless you like those 4 hour a night sleeps bed at 3am up at 7am lol and that is with the little’n sleeping all the way through.

Sorry mate, its all about to change :D

      • that’s how you gotta do it…sleep is for pussies :)

      • but i like pussies…

    • Lol, I can sympathise, Ray. I’m entering the world of parenthood for the first time at the end of October so I couldn’t see myself getting this game straight away anywho.

      • congratz, and October… All those releases and your bank balance will be getting hit hard, but from Huggies or SMA, not Play, shopto or amazon :(

      • lol don’t get me started :P Babys R Us got over £400 of my cash this weekend! And I thought games were over-priced!! lol

  2. I always say it with these announcements, they can only be for the better. It’s not like there’s a shortage right now, or in the next few months so if this leads to an increase in quality then good.

    • My thoughts exactly.

      • Yup, I agree too.
Thought the same about Bioshock Infinite as well. Extra polish time can’t be a bad thing.

    • And history sure proves you right — Tomb Raider Underworld, Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Duke Nukem Forever… All stellar releases which were pushed back for the better!

  3. Never worried by the first time the release date gets moved, normally does just mean they really want the game to shine. This is looking great so not concerned right now.

  4. Ah well, I’ve had the game pre-ordered for well over a year, so I guess another few months won’t hurt. Doesn’t mean to say I’m not pissed off about this latest additional delay though!!
This, and GTA V are my most anticipated, and both will be waiters!

  5. Annoying, this was my most anticipated game for this year. But if it means the game is better then I’m all for it. Plus it’s one less game to get this autumn, there’s loads of games that will keep me occupied.

  6. I actually thought this game was due for a 2013 release in the first place, so I’m fine with that. The game looks fantastic and I cant wait to see more of it in June.

  7. last games of this gen I reckon 2013.

  8. I’ve not really enjoyed any of the last few Tomb Raider games so I’d rather they take the time to really nail this one.
Once a game is out, people talk about the quality of the final product not the delay. If the delay means the game is much better then I’m all for it.

  9. I agree,if the game is going to be finished to a better standard it’s worth the wait.

  10. But you are suppossed to release the game in a buggy state and patch it! That is the new rule right? :P

Joking aside, i’m glad that they have done this as i rather have a delayed game that turns out to be excellent then a game that is released half complete and nearly unplayable.
