Codemasters Announce F1 2012 Champions Mode

Codemasters have just announced F1 2012’s unique new gameplay mode. “Champions Mode”, as it’s known, will enable players to take on each of the six F1 champions competing in the current championship in individual race scenarios designed for quick play and instant action.

Starting with Kimi Räikkönen, the Champions Mode will then feature Lewis Hamilton, Jenson Button, Sebastian Vettel, Fernando Alonso and then finally Michael Schumacher. Each champion, we’re told, has his own race scenario where the player must beat that driver in order to unlock the next challenge, which sounds like it might be fun.

For example, the Kimi Räikkönen challenge sees the player join a race as Kimi’s teammate at Spa Francorchamps. The press release says that the player has just pitted and is on new tyres while the rest of the pack is on worn rubber with three laps to go until the end of the race. In order to complete the scenario the player has to race through the pack and overtake Kimi before the end of the race.

Champions Mode will be playable at gamescom later this month, the game is out in September.

  1. Awesome. I’m really enjoying F1 2010 at the moment but feel like it’s missing that “pick up and play” mode, so this would be very much welcomed :D

  2. Would love to see a gameplay video. While this mode is welcomes by me, the game, I hope, is a lot better than 2011

  3. Sounds good! The challenge modes on the Vita game are very well done so would like to see them transferred to the console game

  4. The “Champions Mode” sounds good but when I read the headline I was hoping some of the champs from the past would be included.

    • That’s what I thought initially, although to be fair this sounds good anyway.

  5. Now that’s what I’m talking about, challenges (scenarios) are a fantastic addition to F1 games, but why are there so few of them? These are no different really to the few challenges (scenarios) in F1 2011, but why can’t they have a fully tiered challenge mode (easy, medium, hard unlocking as you progress) rather just a few token challenges?
Anyways, checked my pre-orders at Shopto yesterday and it wasn’t in the list, so had to promptly get it pre-ordered….not sure if I’d forgotten to pre-order or whether they’d taken it off the list!! {:’O
