Black Mesa Release Date Revealed

Carlos Montero, Project Leader of the Black Mesa  development team has announced that their take on the original Half Life, using the Source engine, will launch on September 14th.

“On September 14th you will see the first release of Black Mesa! This will include our re-envisioning of Half-Life all the way up to Lambda Core. We believe this is a great way to provide a complete-feeling 8-10 hour experience with a solid ending, make our fans happy and help us make the best overall game possible.”, wrote Carlos on the Black Mesa forum.

Carlos also announced that the Black Mesa soundtrack is available to download now, with the bonus that gamers can pay as much or as little as they wish. Black Mesa has been in development for 8 years. A trailer apparently showing gameplay footage was also leaked a few weeks ago.

  1. !!!!! Best sunday ever when I saw that news. Also I got a day of from work when released, just hope the download servers can keep up.

  2. Just nearly knocked my laptop onto the floor when I read the headline, I cannot wait, this will fill the week before Borderlands 2 up nicely.

All we need now is Half Life 3 on December 21st.

  3. Been half keeping my eye out for this for absolutely ages. Feels like ever since HL2 came out.
Will be awesome to have it released!

  4. :O I thought this was in development hell and that we would see Half Life 5 before it would ever see the light of day. Will TSA be reviewing it despite it being a mod? Or just take a look at it? I can see Valve offering the guys behind this a job as they tend to do that.
Now, we just have to wait for Half Life 3.(Can Valve even count to 3 yet? if not then FUUUUUUUUUU..)

  5. Wish this was coming to consoles, i love the HL games. Oh well, i’ll console myself by playing the Orange Box again.

  6. Great news. I just hope they keep porting the rest of the game. I recently read an interview that mentioned that they ran into trouble during the development. At one point they got sloppy and didn’t meet their own standards. That’s when they decided to take a different approach. I believe that’s why they went with a partial release.

  7. Oh yeahhh.. mangasm!
