Resi 6 Day One Patch Infects Your Digital Copy With a Game-Breaking Glitch

Capcom’s zombie slaying action adventure is getting a bit of a rough ride during its launch window. There is currently a discussion on among various reviewers and commentators about its scoring because it seemed to receive a wide range of scores and some were particularly disheartening. Now there’s an issue with the PS3 day one patch and the digital copy of the game.

It seems that the patch renders digitally purchased game installs unplayable. After installing the patch, many are finding that their downloaded copy of Resident Evil 6 won’t load. Apparently, there’s a temporary workaround that Capcom is recommending while they work on a new, functioning patch.

The temporary fix to ensure people can enjoy Resident Evil 6 today as intended is to ask
those people to uninstall the game (only if they originally saw an error message) and reinstall the game. This time they won’t be prompted to download the patch and the game will load.

This method will get your game running but it won’t be ideal – it disables the ability to play online with those who own the disc-based version of the game. It also disables the ability to log into and use – the stat tracking and reward service for the game.

Those who purchased Resident Evil 6 on disc have no issues with the patch, it’s only an issue for those who pre-ordered and bough the PSN Store download. The download is 10Gb so deleting and reinstalling, as advised, is likely to be a frustrating process for many with slower internet connections or bandwidth limits.

  1. tut tut tut, What is it with these day one patches, and they can’t even get it right.

Design and game correctly like the old days, and you wont have this negative vibe of the game.

  2. Always seems to be the Playstation with these game breaking glitches. Not a good advert for Sony, and certainly not good for day 1 digital download sales I should wonder.

    • Not only for Sony, Silent Hill HD is broken for the XBox since day one and there’s no patch for it.

  3. Apperently this is now fixed.

  4. Capcom have managed to outdo Bethesda. :O Not even they have managed to break their game with a single patch. If i had got the PSN version, i would just tell Capcom to eff off and not bother with 6 as i refuse to download 20GB due to them breaking it with a single patch on day 1. Also, can we stop with the day 1 patches? Starting to become a bit annoying.
