WRC 3 Launch Trailer

XCOM and Dishonored are out today and arriving alongside them in a plume of tire smoke and dust is WRC 3 which will be released on PC, Xbox 360, PS3 and PlayStation Vita.

Yup, there is a Vita version, news to me and probably everyone else in the world but well done to the EU PlayStation Twitter feed highlighting a new Vita game and tweeting ‘Calling all petrolheads – WRC3 leaves the garage today on PS3 and PS Vita!’

The launch trailer for the console version is at the top of the page and and at the bottom of this text is a trailer for the PS Vita version which is… not out today.

PQube games say the Vita version will be released on 26th October.

Still, it looks pretty spiffy for a portable  game, the dinky console seems to be flinging a fair few polygons round the screen.

  1. I thought the PS3 demo wasn’t great – the handling was a bit off but it might be improved. And it actually had some of the worst menus I’d seen in a game this gen, and it’s not even a Japanese game! I hope there is a Vita demo though, would be nice to try and see what that’s like, it certainly looks impressive.

    • I thought the same about the demo, handling definitely needed a bit of loosening from the previous two games but it seemed almost too loose this time around. I didn’t mess with the settings yet so i might have another try of the demo. Vita version looks impressive though.

      • Same, I might give the demo another shot, although it’s really the Vita version I’m intereted in since I have lots of other things to finish on PS3. Most Vita games seem to be getting demos, and there was a PS3 demo, so hopefully we’ll get a Vita demo too!

      • I just played the demo again, decided to turn on the stability management (something i usually switch off) and found i didn’t spend so much time clattering from wall to wall this time around :)
I’m glad i gave it another go as it’s now added to my list of games to get.

      • Oh cool, thanks for letting me know…I shall give it another burn! ;)

    • Looks like a PS2 game, first one and second one were crap. this doesnt look any better. I’ll stick to DiRT

  2. Got this game yesterday (day before release woo!) Didn’t come with the free Mini Cooper DLC though which is worrying (pre order bonus from Game)

Anyway, the game is absolutely brilliant. The handling is so much better than last years effort. Also, since nearly everyone complains or mentions this… The stages are NARROW! New Zealand is a right hoot! And you should see the rain drops on your car at the Wales Rally!

Pace notes are brilliant, “left-right chicane into right 4” Have only raced a few stages and not attempted career mode yet (which imo, is a bit too much like DiRT for my liking) but everyone seems to like DiRT so you’d probably love it.

Negatives i’ve noticed so far are trivial at best; No Kimi Raikkonen :( and no group B or safari cars to drive in single stage/rally mode. Hopefully the latter will be added as DLC.

    • GAME sometimes send out the DLC codes a day or two later via email, so hopefully you should still get it.

      • I hope so! I’m just a bit worried since on the website it says the code will be sent as a scratch card with the order. Hoping its a mistake, sent off an email to Game just to make sure.

      • Oh really. In that case good job you sent an email just to be on the safe side, just in case they start to run low on the codes.

    • Amazon sent me my code and it doesn’t even work. I wonder if the dlc is on psn yet.

    • I’m inclined to agree about the career mode vs the single rally stages, at least from what i’ve seen in the demo. I’m hoping that as you progress through the career mode you’ll be able to unlock a proper country by country rally mode..
That said, as long as there isn’t a whiff of gymkhana i’ll be fairly content. ;)

      • I’ve been playing through the career today and it seems like its mostly a single stage at a themed country/area , (Hispanic, Anglo – Saxon, Americas, etc) and the odd three stage rally.. then challenges like gate crash etc. Its best to supplement that with a WRC mode championship imo. Though the car customisation is improved to no end, no longer need to unlock colours, just liveries and sponsors (which no longer affect anything, ie; no ‘do a rally in less than 14minutes’ kind of thing. It means you can design the car based on looks rather than just going for the sponsor with the best rewards.

Theres no PWRC, JWRC, SWRC, championships in career it would seem. Which is disappointing, but last years career did get very boring.
        This years feels, thin…

      • That’s a shame, they really do seem to have followed the Dirt template. It still sounds more appealing to me than Dirt 3 was, thanks for the info. :)

  3. Just waiting on my PS3 copy arriving, looking forward to it.

  4. Is the Vita version a port of the ps3 game or it’s own game? If it’s a full on port (like Most Wanted) I might get it.

    • If that is the Vita version the bottom trailer then consider me impressed.

However not sure if it’s a full on port. If it is it would make you wonder how a little studio can do that but a massive one like EA can’t be arsed with Fifa 13 :)

At least criterion are doing it.

    • It’s a port. But I think it got fewer tracks. But some will be inlcluded as Free DLC later on for the psvita.

      • I have just created this account using my ps vita after playing for 1hr WRC 3 and I can tell you guys that I am very very disappointed!!!! The controls cannot be customized and this really sucks because the control layout does not work for experienced rally gamers (from ps2, ps3 games) where acceleration can be done with either analogbuttons oranalogsticks. For ps vita acceleration button is R1 and break is L1, for ps vita owners you already might know that those buttons are not analogwhich affect WRC 3 gameplay meaning that when you press R1 to accelerate you applyfullpowerinstead accelerating gradually, so I am really ?#%#?;’% about this, WRC developers, really guys did you ever played this game in ps vita? Why controls cannot be changed? Please send update via ps network!!!!!!

  5. Will be picking this up on Sunday. The demo was far improved over previous efforts and the locations are lush. As for the Vita trailer, I’m pretty sure that is an earlier reveal trailer re-uploaded to YouTube with “Vita” written in the title…..sorry :(

    • I agree, I’ve already seen this trailer when looking for Vita videos, it’s not got gameplay from the Vita version unfortunately.

  6. The Vita version looks nice! I’ll keep it in mind.

  7. Bought this today as it looks like the first WRC game by Milestone which actually is simulator-esque. And it isn’t a let down!! Physics and driving feel are spot on – understeer in front-wheel drive, underpowered cars; slightly “oversteery” WRC cars; clumsy Group N Subaru and Mitsu’s. They have nailed the driving dynamics I think with each surface feeling different – to the extent that some water-crossings etc have jumps as you exit the water, and others don’t – much like real stages.

Graphics much improved and sound is lightyear’s better than previously.

Well recommended for those a bit tired of Dirt’s US-heavy shenanigans. Dirt still wins on many counts but NOT authenticity.

  8. Really enjoyed the demo, so might get this on Vita

  9. I’ve finally found actual Vita gameplay:

Looks great, I’m picking it up!

  10. I liked the ps3 demo this year I thought the handling was spot on, not that I have ever driven a 300bhp WRC Rally Car…I thought it was so much better than what has been previous.. Going to get this for sure…
