Thirty Minutes Of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

The Japanese release of Zone Of Enders HD on PlayStation 3 comes with a demo of Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance and a thoughtful person has uploaded thirty minutes of footage from that demo.

The game seems to have had a massive graphical polish since the awful screen shots issued during Comic Con in July and I must admit it now looks and seems to play a lot better than I ever thought it would.

However, I am not impressed by the constant pauses during the fighting. The game does seem to regularly slip into bullet time for the briefest of moments before continuing at full speed. It’s rather like watching a dodgy VHS tape and it’s already annoying me so I hope there is a way to turn the effect off.

Obviously there are a number of spoilers so if you don’t want to know what happens, click here for a picture of a kitten enjoying a cocktail.

  1. Still not buying it

    • yeah, something is really outdated about it, I can’t put my finger on it.

  2. I like how the sword is completely blunt for a while before you can actually cut anything with it. That’s really… lame.

    • It’s not actually ‘blunt’, it’s all about how you use it.

      • haha!! It’s all about the context

  3. Just doesn’t look very convincing. It just feels strange, everything looks and feels like MGS, except you have a sword and you walk around with any attempt to even conceal yourself.
I know its way too easy to pre-judge a game, but I don’t think I’ll be paying for this

  4. they’ve turned it into a button basher!
    game on!

  5. well that looks rubbish lol

  6. The ‘bullet time’ pauses referred to in the article is a deliberate gameplay mechanic – By pressing a button (shoulder button i think) Raiden zooms in on his target allowing for more precise & harder hitting strikes. Its up to you whether you use it or not (or at least it was in the first level).

From what i played, i was relatively impressed. Seems to be a bonkers MG story wrapped up in a decent Hack & Slasher. If neither of those things appeal to you, probably best to stay away! :)

    • No not them. Checking the bottom video from about 10.07 – when Riaden gets hit there is a tiny slowdown in to bullettime before the action continues. V annoying.

      • Ah apologies, i see what you are talking about now – Yes, that does happen on that boss. Whether it happens on all bosses, i don’t know (only got to play 20 mins), but i don’t recall it happening with standard enemies.
