UK Games Charts: 29/10/12 – Warfighter Gunning for the Top

Quite predictably, Medal of Honor: Warfighter has hit the top spot this week. It failed to beat opening week sales records of the 2010 reboot to the series but its chart success is perhaps evidence that lacklustre reviews a day or two after release day aren’t necessarily a barrier to success.

FIFA 13 continues its incredible sales record by holding on to the second place in the charts, beating Forza Horizon into third. Skylanders Giants dropped a couple of places to fourth but given the amount of peripheral figures to spend money on, it may well be making more profit than those above it.

Skyrim seems to be holding on to chart position quite well, probably thanks to the regular talk of DLC (at least for Xbox 360 and PC platforms) that surrounds it. It seems that XCOM is falling quite fast though, hopefully that’s just because all the PC players are buying digitally – a figure which isn’t accounted in these charts.

  1. Am surprised Medal of Duty:Battlefight is at number one despite the poor to average reviews it’s recieved. As well as the lack of advertising.

Dishonoured is still at number 5 and is worth buying.

  2. Being down on sales 2 years ago must be concerning for them, given that each platform sells 10-15m consoles a year. Meaning that despite their potential audience growing they’ve still sold less.

Do notice it hasn’t been promoted anywhere near as much as MoH 2010 though, perhaps EA knew from feedback it was a little weak & wouldn’t provide a return on investment of too massive a marketing budget in the face of BlOps2 and Halo4 and that title from Sony errm, no, wait… they’re all next year aren’t they?

  3. More like ‘MEDAL OF HONOR: BORE-FIGHTER’ :D These FPS are all the same nowadays :-/

    I just saw on Play.com (UK) the ‘500GB PS3’ for £199.99!!! :P + You get ‘Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception – Game Of The Year Edition’ + ‘Gran Turismo 5: Academy Edition’ free to!!! :P :P :P

  4. Ugh. This can only have a negative effect on the industry.

  5. Surprising to see MoH get top spot, I haven’t read a single review that’s above a 5/10, and as cc_star mentioned, there’s far less advertising for it than in previous years.

    • Gamespot gave it a 6/10.

    • preorders and day one sales were before reviews. I assume EA know it’s a stinker and held off review code so they wouldn’t interfere with early sales.
Not that reviews are all that influential for sales these days.

      • I wouldn’t of thought day 1 sales alone would’ve been enough to get it to #1, when you consider it’s gone up against Fifa which is a strong seller for most of the year.

    • personally i’d of given it an 8/10, really enjoying what i’ve played of it so far. although by the looks of it that may just be me.

      that said the singleplayers shit

  6. XCOM at 20 already. Madness!

MOH at the top spot is unsurprising. I can’t remember the last FPS I actually bought thinking about it…

    • Indeed seems to have been lost amonst Dishonored justify hype.

However personally I think X-Com is absolutely brilliant (being a strategy fan) and being able to play a proper Turn based strategy game on ps3 rather than relying on my old Pc is superb.
