I must admit I haven’t paid much attention to Sony’s 12 Deals of Christmas campaign this year, however this is one deal I simply can’t pass up. Up until this Tuesday Sleeping Dogs will be £15.99, or £14.39 if you have a PlayStation Plus subscription.
If you’re not sure about the game, I suggest you check out Peter’s review where he had the following to say:
“Sleeping Dogs isn’t original in most of its mechanics and narrative but the little things that differ from genre staples are enough to warrant your attention. The combat system is a joy and the focus on unarmed combat, rather than firepower, is quite refreshing. Hong Kong is brought to life and while it’s not necessarily the real world of Hong Kong, it is perfect representation of the action movie setting of the island and that is much more entertaining and interesting.”
Right, I’m off to buy a PSN card. Or at least I would be if it wasn’t 1am.

wonkey-willy
playing it as we speak…
not liking it to be fair.
the combat is very hit n’ miss..
the counters are nigh on impossible to pull off when surrounded by a bunch of thugs..
driving is sluggish and story is a bit meh!
not in my top ten.

Sounds to me like either you are being controversial for the sake of it, or you just haven’t ‘gotten it’ yet tbh. To address each of your points;
The combat is spot on – I would say that the closest equivalent is Batman, which is always praised for its freeflow combat. It’s almost exactly the same (not a bad thing).
The counters are more than easy & are always a life saver, ESPECIALLY when surrounded by a bunch of thugs (as the action negates any attack others may be making on you)… It even prompts you when to do it!
I found the driving to actually be very enjoyable & in fact, better than GTA IV.
The story is awesome, but i suppose it would depend on how much you are into HK cinema, as it harks off of that a lot.
So overall, if you don’t like it you don’t like it (which is fair enough of course), but it is usually praised for all of the things you are damning it for.

Simply put people, if you haven’t bought this game as yet, you really should think about picking this one up. Great, great game at a more than reasonable price.
