Disney have finally revealed Infinity, one of the worst kept secrets for some time. As expected, the game is somewhat like Activision’s Skylanders, but obviously draws on Disney’s massive library of already known characters. Much of what has been revealed in the last hour is similar to leaks, but it’s worth taking a proper look.
The press release called the project “its most ambitious gaming initiative ever” and says the game “unlocks the freedom to create stories and play experiences starring beloved characters from The Walt Disney Company and Pixar Animation Studios.”
“Disney Infinity introduces a new way to interact with the best of Disney on one game platform, both now and in the future,” said John Pleasants, co-president, Disney Interactive. “With this innovative approach to gaming, Disney Infinity will bring to life new characters, stories and environments from The Walt Disney Company over time in a way that will delight fans and gamers alike.”
Also mentioned is the “Toy Box”, the project’s codename, which is now a virtual space in which all the characters can come together. The press release talks about “Play Sets” which are themed, story-driven sections which include puzzles, enemies and locations. Items collected from Play Sets can be used in the Toy Box.
There’ll be 40 collectible pieces and 17 character figures, and the Avalanche Software developed game will be out this June across multiple formats. The Starter Pack will set you back $74.99, a Play Set Pack $34.99, a Disney Infinity Figure: $12.99 (or $29.99 for three) and a Power Disc Pack $4.99. Power Discs will be sold blind – you won’t know what you’re getting until it’s opened.
