Blimey, I have a few days off and the apocalypse happens. Companies are imploding, people are eating horses, grandads are looting stores and helicopters and trains are burning up across the city. Let us take refuge in the safe, comforting, zombified bosom of gaming.
President Obama has called for further research into the effects of violent videogames on children. “Congress should fund research on the effects violent video games have on young minds,” Obama said, “We don’t benefit from ignorance. We don’t benefit from not knowing the science.” Whatever the results of the research it will be good to have a large, fully funded investigation in to the matter.
A couple of days back we noted that Fallout 3 radio DJ ThreeDog had hinted his character would return and now a user on Bethesda’s forums has discovered the company has registered a trademark that gives them the option to make Fallout “an ongoing television programme set in a post-nuclear apocalyptic world.”
If you picked up Transformers: Fall Of Cybertron in the January sales then you will be pleased to know that from now on the multi player will be dishing out double XP. This is a permanent change to help everyone level up.
A new trailer for Army of TWO The Devil’s Cartel has been released. Not sure why TWO is now all in capitals but that is what EA seem to be calling the game from NOW on. It is very ANNOYING.
Lightning is to get a new chum for her third outing, Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, she will be joined by the pink haired Lumina. Silicon Era suggest she has a “Gothic Lolita style.”
The Writer’s Guild has chosen its nominees for the Outstanding Achievement in Videogame Writing at its forthcoming awards ceremony and the nominees are: 007 Legends, Assassin’s Creed III, Disney Epic Mickey 2, Assassin’s Creed III: Liberation, Halo 4 and Uncharted: Golden Abyss. Some rather odd choices there (007 Legends? Really?) but nice to see Golden Abyss get a nod.
Not much else going on apart from hundreds of frickin teasers, announcements of announcements and half arsed rumours, most of which have been carefully stored in the round filing cabinet on the floor.
Let’s end with a trailer for Defiance, the new TV show that will be linked to an MMO shooter for all consoles and PC. The game is currently in testing with the ‘Advance Mission Beta 1’ taking place this weekend for those lucky enough to snag themselves an invite.
